V is for Voigtlander
Hi All,
Spent the last week making some images with a newly acquired Kiev 4A. Purchased it from ebay seller "Yurrets.perfect" and it made the trip from the Ukraine to my front door in Columbus, Ohio in about two weeks. He claims that he is a camera repair specialist and clockmaker and that this camera had undergone a CLA. Well packaged and the camera came with a Youtube video showing my specific camera running through it's operational paces. (Kind of a unique approach) The camera was well maintained and arrived with two bars of Ukrainian Chocolate!
The Jupiter-8 lens was clean and focussed nicely. Smooth helicals, etc. After working with the Kiev for the week, I had no reason to doubt his claims. The camera worked flawlessly save for my consistent blocking of the rangefinder window while I got used to the Kiev/Contax style of holding and shooting with the camera. I ran a roll of Tri-X and processed it yesterday D-76 1:1. The results were very positive. (See sample image below) I like the feel of the camera. Certainly the heft. It sort of reminds me of my 1958 Yashica 35.
I could certainly make this my daily shooter. Maybe marry it to the J-12 or 9 when I have the funds. It felt like I was really shooting with a camera.
