I've noticed there are some Kiev 4A with the built-in take-up spool and some with the older fall-out spool. is this really a 4AM (with the built-in spool)? the Russian sellers on eBay are calling them 4A but they can't both be 4A can they?

I had a 4 take-up spool transplanted into a 2 and it worked fine. I think there is another difference between a 4A and a 4AM, but I don't remember.

The 4AM has a fixed take up spool and a film rewind lever, those are the improvements over the 4A.

Unless, I suppose, one wants to shoot canister to canister (a reason the Zeiss take up spool was removable in the first place).

The 4AM has a hot-shoe, fixed spool, fold-out rewind crank and the shutter speeds are marked on the upper face of the speed dial. If a seller doesn't know what model he's selling, I'd be supsicious of his or her ability to assess working condition. Then again, I've seen the Kiev 4 advertised as "rare Kiev 3" and so on, some people just don't do their homework.

yea, thanks, I thought so. I went back to look and only about 10% are named correctly. what is the name for a Kiev 4 with a meter? those are named the same on ebay as well.
