Kiev 5

Hi!

I've seen what seems a well used kiev 5 with the appropriate J8(H?) in a store window. Is it worth anything as a camera? How much should I pay for it?

I actually got several for good prices with no issues,but from people, not stores.

I just got my Kiev several Days ago. It' an incredible giant of a camera. If the inner bayonet is not turned counterclockwise you won't be abkle to focus (That's the state mine arrived). The VF/RF is probably the best in any soviet rangefinder as it has a light frame and is parallax corrected and alo it has a VF/RF that looks like 1:80 in my eyes.
But always consider it's size! Iit's rather heavy for an RF and there are SLR's with lenses that are smaller than a Kiev 5.

Well, Michael, the truth is that I ommited the fact that you are not a newbie, and I am now sure you will check what you may buy in high detail. So instead of frigthening you, I wish you to trust in your knowledge, your nose, yourself.

I decided to pass on it - I have a leica m3 with summaron 35/2.8 eyes at the doctors(body at Youxin Ye and lens at Sherry Krauter) and a mamiya m645j kit in the mail- so - no money.It is actually quite collectable, if you want me to tell you where is it - PM me. I think even as a bookcase decoration(if it is dead) it is worthwhile.

Oleg Khalyavin says the shutter is easily fixable since it's more or less the same as older kieavs but the RF is different - and there are no spares.It also has the best rf\vf in all of the russians according to him.
