Kiev IIIa frame counter dial

Has anyone got a fix for a frame counter dial that is easy to turn either way on a Kiev IIIa?
Other than placing a piece of Scotch tape over the edge part of the dial so my thumb does not move it.
There must be a clutch adjustment for this counter dial inside the camera, any clues?

The frame counter dial is riveted to the gear underneath and movement is restricted with friction. Suggest you remove the dial and see if you can increase the friction by banging with a hammer or bending the legs of the friction washer.

I'll swap you for the one on my Kiev 4 that almost takes your skin off to reset it! 🙂

I have a 4a like that also, I use the surface of its leather strap instead of my thumb skin to set it.
On this problem on my IIIa, by pressing down on the counter's axis dimple seems to have made the counter wheel less free turning and it advances nicely with each film wind.

A gentle squeeze with flat faced pliers protected with rubber gloves would be sufficient to alter the spring tension, if the rivet has been set resonably.

Heavy (wax like) grease is normally sufficient and not disposed to creating tight spots, like the pliers technique. A neighbour kid who has a hot rod will normally have disc/drum brake wheel bearing grease, (under his fingernails).

Some one has removed all the Ru grease as they are more normally difficult to turn, the perils of a bath in solvent.
