sharpness apart, the Summitar draws volume in a very special way that I like a lot.

For may last comparison, after considering your thoughts and the distance marks on my lenses, Summitar in English and Jupiter 8 in metric, A quick bit of math told me I can do this and confirm pretty close using available distance marks on the lenses. The Jupiter 8 has a 1.2 meter mark and my Summitar has a 4 ft mark. These are very close with 4ft = 1.22m so I set the camera film plane at 4ft distance from the subject and used 4 ft for the Summitar and just a hair over the 1.2m mark on the J8 and confirmed both were on with the IIIb rangefinder. Not quite sure if there is a better way to do this but that is what I came up with.

That is a reasonable and sensible explanation to me. I know sometimes things happen and they don't often happen as planned or as anticipated.
