Trying to decide on a 21mm lens...

What's the vignetting like for the Kobalux 21mm on the R-D1?

Has anyone used both the Kobalux and the Voigtlander 21mm lenses on the R-D1? If so, how does the vignetting by the former compare with the latter?

TIA!

I've used both, and the Kobalux is better re vignetting than the CV by quite a margin. Now I use the Elmarit pre-asph. and it's very like the Kobalux... not quite the bite in the centre that the CV has, but a very even picture quality across the frame.

I like the Kobalux (the one I had was branded Avenon), and if you can get one, I'd recommend it.

one other thing... the V/F for the Kobalux is pretty large - I used the 21D viewfinder from CV instead.

I'd love to find a kobalux/bower/etc at a good price. But they just don't seem to be around.

And then I start thinking "What is an extra stop worth to me?"

But the I start shooting in a low light bar and would probably pay anything for a extra stop or two.

Rich, have you tried the "anti-vignetting" settings in the Epson RAW developer? I usually find the settings a little too much when using the right focal length. I always check, and mostly end up using, the next two longer focal lengths. So, for a 25mm I'd check 35 and 50. This seems to work well without any noticeable loss (to me) of image quality.

An extra stop might be worth a premium, though, so good luck hunting that Kobalux. :)
