The best camera is one that still works!
I'd trade the return of Kodachrome for the return of David Bowie, Prince and Leonard Cohen.

Man, now we're talking!! ....although I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Kodachrome back, either.Since we are speculating I wish they would reserach bringing back Kodak HIE. I have a IR converted digital camera. But nothing beats old HIE.
I'd be very interested to see how they'd accomplish it if they were to do it. I suspect brennanphotoguy might be on the right track; it seems more likely they'd release an E6 slide stock with similar color properties to the original Kodachrome before they'd jump through the hoops of trying to revamp the old chemical process, with all it's EPA issues. That would be fine with me if they can really nail it.

Oh talk about a wet dream. I still have a couple of rolls in the freezer.

I'd trade the return of those three for the return of Kodachrome in a heartbeat, and I never particularly liked Kodachrome.
But them even less.

I'd trade the return of Kodachrome for your three and raise you one, Obama.
If they pull this off, then I think we will see many new film cameras being made.

It's 2017. We've been to Mars. We can't come up with an efficiently-processed slide film with the color properties of Kodachrome? Is film the only thing to not have significantly evolved in 50 years? George Louis might say Film and toilet paper.....
Anyone try applying the alien skin exposure Kodachrome preset to scans of other slide films? Close enough?

Kodak can always repackage Ektachrome and call it Kodachrome.
And with that pre-paid processing envelope no one will catch on for a while.
I'd catch on as soon as I tried to scan the chromes with my film scanner and digital ICE worked (it doesn't work with B&W film or Kodachrome).
I would have serious doubts that Kodak could ever bring back the real Kodachrome. Now naming some other formula of color slide film Kodachrome, that I wouldn't put past them.

Uffda. Crazy Norwegians.
In a Kodakchrome thread.
In a Kodakchrome thread.
If Kodak want to begin making it again, and do so, they will organise the development side of things. Do some of you want to give them a chance, to see if it can happen before pooh-poohing it? After all, you'll either shoot it, or you won't. If you'll shoot it, and it happens, it's good news. If you won't, then: whether it does, or doesn't re-appear. . .what difference will it make to you? None. So why talk it down?
Go shoot some negative. This is positive news, not negative, no matter what sort of spin you put on it.

This is 21 century, isn't Kodak or businesses have more advanced tools to improve Chemistry? Where's nanotechnology?

Because I'm tired of old farts talking about Kodachrome.
"Do you remember the Model T Ford? That was a REAL car. Too bad Ford stopped making those. Nothing drove like a Model T Ford. Only real drivers appreciated the Model T ford. So Ford introduced new models for 2017? They should bring back the Model T! The Model T is was what everybody really wants to drive! No other car can compare to a Model T. Too bad the government outlawed the chemicals used in making Model T Fords. Too much regulation in the auto industry. Why can't Ford just make the car everybody wants? The Model T Ford!"
It's not the company or the product, it's that ever since Kodak discontinued Kodachrome, because nobody was buying the stuff, there has been a group of people who won't stop talking about how it was the greatest thing on earth, and how Kodak needs to bring it back, even though nobody was buying the stuff.
I miss Plus-X too, but eventually I shut up about it being dead. It's dead. Get over it and move on. And even then, bringing back plus-X would still make far more sense than bringing back Kodachrome, which was essentially dead in the water years before they finally axed it.
Now could they make an E-6 film that mimics Kodachrome and call it Kodachrome? Possibly. But then I'm sure we'd hear old farts complaining about that too.

The reason we're talking about Kodachrome in this thread is because Kodak is actually exploring the possibility of bringing it back, in some form, into production.
The Model T Ford went out of production 90 years ago. For some years after that time, people missed the car and wished that it was still being offered. Ninety years later, that is no longer the case and no one here is proposing that Kodachrome will be a viable product 90 years after its demise in 2012.
The fact that Kodak is exploring the possibility of reintroducing the product strongly suggests that they have good data to indicate that there is a market for it. It may not ultimately prove feasible, but the fact that Kodak is considering it is certainly worthy of enthusiasm and discussion on a photography forum.

I saw a detailed description for the Kodachrome process somewhere not too long ago. It did not strike me as any big deal for a good wet chemist to replicate - I never understood what all the hullabaloo was about with Kodachrome processing. This is 1935 technology folks.
