You should not sigh. This is a good idea, or at least would have been a good idea had they done it years ago. Talk to young people today and you will find that very few of them have ever heard of Kodak. Few know that the company either exists or survived the bankruptcy. They need to get their name out there so that the brand once again has a positive meaning. It may be too late though.

The huge success of Fujifilm instax in the young generation is mostly to a marketing strategy adressing exactly that group. And Fujifilm has also used and is using the fashion industry, fashion bloggers, youtubers and influencers to make its products popular for the young generation.
 
If you are in the business of selling something, marketing is never a bad idea, and this is marketing. It’s not marketing that’s the bad idea. I’m not crazy about the designs, but then I’m not young people so I’m in no position to judge.
It certainly can’t hurt.
 
The range is right on the money with streetwear trends so I expect it to sell well. Many up and coming fashion/portrait/music photographers are all film and we’ve had Portra 400 constantly going out of stock here in London. Labs and darkrooms get lots of work coming in too - this collection is quite well timed. Having a big brand like Forever 21 is quite a step up since previous Kodak collabs have been with smaller, more boutique brands.
 
It's a poof article that is filled with inaccurate statements and off the track ideas. Teens love NASCAR? Hardly! Most people think it's a dumbed down joke. A form of racing that only rednecks like, and it's severe drops in attendance and TV viewership over the years confirms that. Combine that with the scandals coming from it's owner, and you have a brand that is poisonous and on life support. I mean, that's a really, really bad marketing idea thinking that NASCAR watching teens (all three of them) are something you want your brand associated with. The last brand you would want your film company to be partnered with is NASCAR.

Now if they partnered with Formula One or even Indycar that would make sense. I think it's smart to market your product to a wider audience, but you have to be more intelligent than this.
 
I'm not crazy about the cartoonish colors, but there's a store in my neck of the woods and so will check it out in person. Maybe they look better in real life. I'll also see what the store's clientele does with the products.
 
The cartoonish colors were part of Kodak branding, and they're part of the period allure. Another revenue stream from licensed fashion doesn't seem like such a bad idea. Car companies and motorcycle companies do it, without emperilling their reputations, so why not Kodak too?

Hmmm... there's a Forever 21 store in a nearby mall. I might have to go buy a shirt for a daughter who enjoys film photography. 🙂

Sorry, but I`m not nostalgic for Kodak or Kodak`s brand recognition... if they can crawl out their funk, I`d rather see it be by creating something for photographers.
 
I wouldn't mind wearing some of the sweaters shown on their website, but what I want more is a new Kodak consumer level ISO 400 colour negative film. The "Kodak" Kodak does not produce photographic films anymore and Kodak Alaris seems to support their Pro lines of films only these days. If there has to be a hype, why not a hype for a new affordable film for everyone? Oh money issue I guess.
