If you've got the money, hopefully, the retailers haven't jacked their prices yet on this news....

For convenience, I buy a lot of BW400CN and even Tri-X at my local drugstore.

A few months ago, I could buy a 3 pack of CN for ~$13.00 and a single roll of X for ~$4.00

Today, all they have are single rolls of both and the price is $7.29 each...

Surely that would have buried film even more quickly Dave?

I don't think fifty cents over a three year period would have deterred us hardy photographers. It might have helped Kodak's predicament but I doubt it with the rumors of bad management decisions they have had... Either way, a little as they go is one thing, fifty cents+ over the rest of this year is a different story.

Hopefully they will survive because of us hardy photographers. But, it really depends on one's degree of hardiness doesn't it?😛

I'm shopping at B&H right now and, so far, I'm spending $150 just on Tri-X, P3200 and Portra 800 *LOL*

There's more to come too..

Cheers,
Dave

Yeah, the price of gas is considerable and convenience has it's place, but Freestyle still has it for $5.99 a roll. I recently bought 20 rolls of Arista Premium 400 for less than half that. A roll of Acros 100 at Showcase was $7.99. I got one.🙄 I need to get my next documentary moving and will, again, factor all the costs of film into that.

It's all relative. If gas goes up to $5.00/gal, my transportation to the RFF Meet in Pensacola will be 25% higher...or in real terms, an increase of about $32 over the present cost of premium gas at $4.00/gal. Hardly a problem as we are already on bologna sandwiches and Ramen noodles anyway in anticipation of meeting with fellow RFF members on April 28th!😛

As I have been mentioning since I first landed on RFF...I am a hybrid. With new technology and the prices of cool film gear going down (on some, not all), it is only smart, and fun, to be both a film and digital shooter these days.

If we all look at our work and consider it an art/craft/passion, whatever, there is always room for film based photography. If those who just shoot, well, they will most likely drop out for one reason or another. It really depends on the individual, but there is a lot of logic in being a hybrid shooter IMO.🙂

No kidding. There is pro-level gear available for a song these days. I just bought a Mamiya RB 180 K/L lens for $100. Unbelievable. This weekend I will be slapping a 6x17 back on a Linhoff Tech IV for some tests. In Vermont, Spring is almost here!

I'm just glad that I stacked up on my favourite Kodak film last year ... Elite Chrome 100. Got 50 rolls (now 48) in the basement that will probably last me a couple years.

Now is probably the time to get some Ektar, Portra and Tri-X.
