Kodak is working on a Chapter 11 bankruptcy (three threads merged)

My only hope is that this does wonders for Fuji and Ilford.

But I suppose film is kind of a niche market so it doesn't seem likely.

R.I.P. Kodak

Yikes, what a depressing thread. My hope is that Kodak survives and re-emerges from potential Chapter 11 as a leaner, small, core-focused company. But who knows? I'm sure numerous journalists and college students are studying the decline of Kodak as a business train-wreck in slow motion.

You're right. There's been a lot of vapourware but never anything that anyone independent of the manufacturers could get their hands on. I've met several people who said they were going to do it, and several who actually tried. Neither group succeeded. This is basically a folk-myth for wishful thinkers, along with the million-year light-bulb and the car that runs on water, where 'the patents' were bought up by a non-existent cartel who felt threatened by such things. Such views betray a certain ignorance of how patents work.

Cheers,

R.

The company you are thinking about was first called "ImageK" and later "silicon film". An interesting read up on vapourware, hype, cash-burn and bad investment schemes.

while I am not that worried about the future of film (the ilford-harman and polaroid-IP showed us people want to buy it and use it) I am sorry for the employees of KODAK. from what I understand(and i am no economist) Kodak has been sawing the branch it's been sitting on since the eighties
