I have been experimenting with color print film (C41) while shooting FSU rangefinders and other cheap cameras. Unfortunately cheap film doesn't give good colors. I shot Ektar 100 and it wasn't as stunning as people make it sound online. Perhaps it's because I am used to Velvia and I expect too much?
Anyway, I shot a roll of Portra 400VC with Black Slim Devil, a toy camera with a 22mm lens and I was impressed by the color reproduction. It's not neutral, but it's very pleasant. The following have been scanned with Coolscan V and cropped in Photoshop (almost no color correction, except setting black points).
Do you know of a place one could buy cheap Portra 400VC? Freestyle has it, but it's only $0.20/roll cheaper than amazon. Have you tried some film that had a color response similar to Portra 400VC?
Thanks a lot in advance
