I had a GAS attack last night and on a whim made an offer on eBoy to a previoulsy camera-tech-owned Konica C35.

I've read the usual 35mm RF websites such as DeYoung's, Matt Denton, Martin Taylor, etc. so I think I'm quite prepared. Plus, due to being owned by a camera tech, the C35's seals have been replaced, so I'm hopeful to get a good sample.

Anybody here with this camera, do you like it? do you hate it? what's the picture quality level?

You are in for a good time!

Good enough for you? No?

C35 with Auto Up

Yeee ha!!!

Whoa! I'll let my jaw on the floor for a while...

Are you kidding me? those from all-auto camera?
very sharp with subtle and gradual bokeh...

Why don't they make pocket cameras like this anymore???

Trius, do you know which one is smaller, the C35 or Pen D2 ??
My Pen D2 is out on CLA, can't wait until it comes back. I was going to use it as my pocket camera (taking turns with the XA), but this Konica is really tempting me to use it also.

The c35 is a cool camera, I just today took it out and will use it tomorrow in Atlanta Ga. to take some shots. I haven't used in in over two years.

Thanks for reminding me, I need to dig mine out.

The C35 is a fabulous camera and I can't say enough good things about it. It's the only auto-everything-except-focus camera that has never disappointed me, ever; it just might have the best lens in my collection with the exception of my 35mm color skopar. I used my C35 for one of my shots in RFF Book 2 and have a couple of shots from it posted in my gallery here. Oddly enough given my penchant for slides, I still haven't run any color film through mine, only black-and-white.

I owned one in the 1970s. I traded it for several albums, including Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon," something by Elvis Costello and several others.

I tried to buy one last year, but it never arrived. The seller refunded my $12.

Nice little camera and nice lens.

On a related note, does anyone have an extra Konica X-14 flash they'd be willing to part with? I'd like to complete my set :)

Nice pics, Doug, the lens looks really really sharp. Gosh, you guys make me more eager to try it out (I'll go bug the seller :)

Keep the Konica C35 pictures coming guys and gals!

Thanks! If you can get one, you won't be disappointed. The only minus I've found with the camera is that you can only use ISO 80-400 film. Not that big of a deal for me since I mostly shoot 100 in color and 400 in black-and-white.

EDIT: Ugh, must have been late when I wrote this, it should be ISO 25-400.

Very underrated, sharp lens and light/ small..........and cheap, but get the true RF, non- scale focusing version.

C35 was my first rangefinder camera (black, the original version) I love it for colour photos, when i want "something different". It´s small lens seems to do some magic to the colours, amazing!

The C35 is the camera my girlfriend likes to use. She never uses any other of my cameras... When she took it to use the first time, she picked it, of course, because it looks nice ;) Now, when she needs a camera, i load the C35 with film without even asking if she´d like to take some other camera. And when her friends see the results, they wonder if the shots are taken with one of those super-expensive-gigapixel digicams ;)

It is the only camera for which i could collect all the "extras" for, just for fun. Prices are really low... I have the never-ready case and just yesterday bought Auto-Up-thingy (290048547951). I will also be getting the underwater -case some day. Which other items are there? Underwater flash maybe?

Shadow: I don't know about the size compared to the D2. I would imagine they would be close. The C35 is very light; it doesn't feel as substantial as say the Oly 35RC, which while a tiny bit smaller, is certainly heavier.

As Bill58 says, get the C35, not the C35-V. The V is the scale focus version. It was actually my first 35mm camera. While it is identical in every other respect and is capable of great photos, the RF focusing of the C35 and C35 Automatic is a better choice.

Aside from the flash, case, auto-up and underwater housing, the only other accessories, I think, some Konic branded filters. I don't think there were any tele or wide adapters, but I could be wrong.

shadowfox, to answer your question about the size of the C35 compared to the D2, I set my C35 next to my Pen EE-2 (not quite the same model as yours, but close). I think the Pen is a bit heavier, the C35 is a bit larger; makes sense given the full frame of the C35. It should still fit into a jacket pocket easily.

I recently purchased a C35 from Trius and enjoy using it. Haven't got my first two rolls back though so can't comment on image quality yet, but it does fit nicely into a jacket pocket. It's a very pert little thing -- makes you want to use it just by winking at you :)

Hi all, I finally got the Konica C35! Man, it's cute, almost as cute as my Pen D2.

Cosmetically it's quite good, i'll post pictures on flickr tomorrow, but when I opened the back door, whoa... coarse foam strewn about on both side of the bottom (below the pressure plate *and* below the lens opening).

So I have two questions, where do I take this little camera for a foam replacement (I am *not* handy at all, DIY is mostly out of the question)? Are there repair techs specifically for Konica like there are for Olympus?

Secondly, what battery do you guys use to replace the PX675 that will retain a semblance of accuracy on metering the exposure?

I don't know about a local repair facility for light seal replacement (it's very easy, actually, but you have begged off on any DIY!), but you might want to contact Clint at Photosphere (olyfix.com) ... he doesn't work on anything other than Olympus, but he will know who can do it in the area.

Others may directly know of a local resource.

As far as battery goes, you can use a Wein zinc-air direct replacement, which is the same size/shape as the PX675. Or, you can use a hearing aid battery, also zinc-air. It will be smaller in diameter, so you will need something such as a #9 O ring (available at any hardware store) which can be a spacer to keep the battery in place.

Don't use a silver-oxide battery directly, the voltage is to high. A Criscam adapter or camera modification is needed to step down the voltage of the silver-oxide (1.5v) battery.

Don't use an alkaline battery replacement. The discharge cure causes gradual errors in exposure as the voltage falls.

Hi Trius, you mentioned:

Don't use a silver-oxide battery directly, the voltage is to high. A Criscam adapter or camera modification is needed to step down the voltage of the silver-oxide (1.5v) battery.

I have an MR9 adapter from Criscam, but that doesn't seem to fit the battery compartment on this camera. Further research showed that I need yet another adapter, which is similarly [over]priced from these guys:

Crazy as I may be, I probably just go with the Wein cell. The reason I sprung for the MR9 cell is because I can use it on both my Pen cameras as well as my OM-1s, which I use quite a bit. But getting an adapter for a single camera that costs half of the adapter is just too weird :)
