Konica Minolta Scan Dual IV Refurbished Purchase

I purchased a KM Scan Dual IV refurbished via ebay from Cybershops for $195 + $20 shipping.

I got it yesterday and so far it is working great. I just wanted to let others know that I had a good experience with Cybershops and the scanner came well packaged in a new generic white box which was clearly labelled as a KM refurbished product. Everything is nicely bagged. You only get the KM software and manual. Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 is not included.

I was a little scared about buying a refurbished item. My wishful thinking is that whatever factory issue or bug which caused the original return has now been corrected. Cybershops seems to be sitting on a whole bunch of these as there are plenty of Buy-It-Now scanners still available on ebay from them.

I big thank you to everyone on the forum for sharing their scanning tips. I never installed the KM software (just the twain driver) and then downloaded VueScan.

Vuescan is working great on some old slides so far. Although I was shocked at the amount of dust and black specs on the old slides I was scanning. Makes me wish for ICE but I have been using Polariods Dust & Scratch free removal tool and that has been working well. My newer slides from the 90s are very clean.

Glad to hear, I searched and searched and finally found the DS IV available new at Freestyle Photography for the regular price, $249 plus shipping. I considered a refurb unit but decided on new. There are not a whole lot new out there, good to hear the refurbs work as new as they should.

Good buys! Mine broke but KM fixed it. I like mine a lot.

I think refurb is a good way to go, figuring it's had a thorough clean/lube and functional check by a technician, it seems possible to be in better shape than new-in-box. Sounds like a great deal!

I've set up a few KM Scan Dual IVs for clients in the last couple of years, and think they're a great value. Good to hear your refurb is working well. I'd invest in a good anti-static brush and either a few cans of compressed air or (better still) a small air compressor (with a moisture trap!) to handle those particularly dirty/dusty negs and 'chromes. The less retouching you have to do, the better, for more than one reason.

Barrett: When you say "set up" a KM Dual Scan IV, do you mean install and get it running? Or is there some fine tuning required...
