buying a M2 from RFF is cheaper. The prices at the shops are catered from some discounting but frankly they are more "collectors" than "user" type of Leicas. The plus points are obviously a. they are CLA'd by the shops b. shops provide better form of protection and lastly the camera conditions are much better.

having said that, i could sell you my frankenstein m2 (m3 lugs, m2 frames and m1 top plates).

I have a question for the guys in Singapore......I might be interested in getting an m2, how are the prices in general for used Leica m bodies.......I have a friend here visitng me from Moscow and he wants an m2 and I am thinking about sellig him mine and then picking one up next week in Singapore.......but i have no idea how the prices are for a used body......

As what Ray said, prices are more expensive here in Singapore, and what you see in shops are usually sold at very high prices. Yes, they do have a shop warranty, but the quality of the techs they use are dubious, hence I tend to avoid the shops and shop locally in the forum. However, I still feel that buying a Leica M in RFF so much cheaper and reliable, especially when the sellers here are genuine and offer fair prices for gear.

I've created a track for you based on Google Map if you are in KL. If slimy fish, wet markets is up your alley ( street photo in other words ), then this should do. I've also included a place where you can replenish your Tri-X and have some Leica glass and body in the glass cabinet within a few blocks, as well as a local temple.

Starting point is off the train station. Print a map so you don't get lost. Don't worry about hanging a camera round your neck, it's safe. It's sometimes the more touristy places that you should be more wary.

Another vote for an expensive 2nd hand market here. I bought my M2 from Hong Kong where prices are better (but need to be more aware of what you're buying)

the market for used Leicas in Singapore sounds a lot like how it is here.... Damn

I think I'll pass on selling my Russian friend my m2 and just tell him to pay the prices here in Bangkok or go back to Moscow and see what's available.

I agree with rff having the best prices, and it has always been nice to deal with people here..... This place is great on so many levels ....

I think there's no harm in looking at the used bodies in SG while you're around Chiif's shop. The other 2nd-hand shops are just stones throw away in the vincinity. Excelsior Hotel, Peninsula Shopping Centre, Peninsula Plaza.

While u're at Chiif's , do get yourself immortalised on his wall of polaroids 😉

Ms are usually cheaper here in Indonesia especially the older ones. There's an M2 with a 50/2 rigid summi priced for $900 and an M3 w/ 5cm summitar priced for $950 (USD) but the seller lives far away so it takes time to get to you. Might not be the best idea. Unless you have a local who would help. 🙂

I am interested to know where it is....maybe I'll be padding through that part of Indonesia ..... Also is it a button or rewind.....any issues with camera?

This has been a very useful thread, as I'm going to Singapore in a week and will be staying there for three months with side trips to Malaysia and Indonesia. Good to have all this information on places to see and also on camera shops etc in the region.
