I stumbled on this forum by accident, and it is right up my alley for all things big city and film noir-ish. Especially the late 1940s and 1950s seedy photographs in Black and White of crime and grime.

The clarity, sharpness and depth of field in that first picture....wow! Many of the photos on this post were shot with flash (I assume that all were shot on film as well), and they look just great. I like film noir myself. Those movies were almost always shot on B&W film, and many of the cinematographers were geniuses at getting stunning image quality in low light shots and on tight budgets. Considering the shots above were shot in a hurry and in whatever light there was, with or w/o a flash, is remarkable.
