I know this has been asked before, but I can't seem to locate the thread. Can you reccommend a good lab for printing digital files? Though I have some interest in color, most of my work is black and white. I know that T_om had high praise for an online lab, but the information was buried in a thread that I can not locate. I have been thinking seriously about buying one of the new Canon printers, but I have also been thinking about the true cost effectiveness of going this route. At any rate I would like to see what the labs can do. Thanks for your help.

I've seen pictures printed on durst and lambda printers from CPQ, out of Tenessee I believe, and they looked nice. I'm not sure about pricing or if you (as an individual) can send files in or if you need to be a studio and have a contract. A local studio uses them and the quality looked great. I've only seen color work from them though so I have no idea what their B&W stuff would be like.

I use mpix.com for larger stuff. Evidently they are a part of Porter's? They're almost completely automated, so it takes a couple initial tries to get the right curves. They have a "true black & white" process in addition to color. If I needed to hang a show, I'd probably want something a little better, but until then....

Great service, great quality, fast turnaround. You WILL need a fully color-corrected workflow or you are going to get color casts (this is true of any lab) unless you chose to let them do the color correction work (this includes B&W).
