This is probably going to sound strange, but how does the book smell? I had in my hands czech edition published by Torst. It's printed on matte paper and the combination of paper and print colour smells awfully bad to me. Seems like I'm particularly sensitive to this smell, causing me headaches.... apart from this I can handle anything else 🙂

Mine's published by Aperture, printed by Steidl, and it's one of the best smelling photo books I have. This edition has additional pics and is laid out by Koudelka. An improved version of a classic, superbly printed and bound. This is a great book.

Have only had to time for a quick flip-through. Nice book. Every page is French folded, each with a single photograph reproduced at the top with small margins around the top and both sides.

My copy is now to hand. I do have some issues with this. On a practical level I hate the printing across the gutter (landscape) how much better are the portrait orientation pages.
How well will the gatefold pages hold up to repeated opening ? On the plus the printing is Steidl, fantastic, but most credit to Voja Mitrovic who printed from the negs. The contrast is high, very Koudelka, but the detail in both highlights and shadows come from a master printer.
I need to live with it for a while but first impression is yes it is good to see more from this series but I am not convinced that this selection and layout is superior to the first edition selection. Less can be more.

Why mention this book again, it is becoming a regular in this thread? Simply it is a must buy.
 
I've ordered Anton Kusters' ODO YAKUZA TOKYO. Its the 2nd edition, so there are some slight tweaks from the first edition, but I'm really looking forward to receiving it. Being printed as we "speak" and is due to be shipped out at the end of October. I'm lucky enough to be getting a signed edition and one of Anton's prints with it, too.

Traces of Eden by Mark Klett because I like the southwest.

From Here to There by Alec Soth. Great book, i like his style of shooting.

and On this Earth, A Shadow Falls by Nick Brandt. I spent a couple days in Africa but didn't get to get out and see any wildlife so this is my safari.

In his book Roger Hicks says that users of densitometers and the Zone System seem to be a bit "obsessive." However, a couple weeks before I bought the book I had purchased a working densitometer for $10. Obsessive or not, I think I'll use the $10 densitometer, as well as study and practice what is in Roger's book.

I have an older version of the same book...they are slightly different...

Disregarding the sticker shock, that book will be something else. Imagine all his significant chromes in one compilation... that'll be definitive. I may start saving....
