According to the publisher's description, these books trace the development of his early color work. So, the answer is probably, "No". But maybe that isn't exactly the point. This seems more of a survey than a "Greatest hits". For a distillation of this work, see "William Eggleston's Guide".

I decided to get one because judged by his fame and the market price, I will not lose a penny if I later decide to get rid of it.

I have hundreds of photographybooks in all fineart genres, classic and contemporary. There is very few work i can not appreciate in one way or another, but i simply do not get the hype about this lady's work. There is realy Nothing i enjoy about it!


I was lucky i could send the awarded book "Illuminace" back (and take some loss) but are stuck with the last two books.
 
Book of Nudes, Edward Weston ISBN 978-3-8296-0360-7. Hardcover, 87 pages. I bought the German edition at a very reasonable price (AUD$15 incl postage) new from bookdepository and was pleasantly surprised at the reproduction quality. A nice sampler including some of his better known images.

"Foto Kyabarē (フォト・キャバレー) / Photo Cabaret" - by Seiji Kurata
"80's Family: Street Photo Random Japan" - also by Seiji Kurata
"Harry Callahan: The Photographer at Work" - by Szarkowski

And I've ordered "Chromes".

Of course, all these were bought over time, not all at once.

I got Russel Roberts "Tony Ray Jones" last Saturday. Presentation House in North Vancouver had a copy. Much the same pictures as in the "A Day Off" - but better printing and larger images. Good interview in the end. Bill Jay and Martin Parr talking about Tony's way of seeing.

Well, they are better than nothing and take some getting used to. I like them for the fact that there is some actual reading material in the book about the original book. However, there are times where very important photos are reproduced very small (only some of them though, others are nice). Some of them are dirt cheap on ebay and amazon. Others... even the books on books version is already out of print and rare with rare price tags (William Klein). Overall, I've learned to love these books.

OK cool, I much prefer if they do a facsimile version (like Van Der Elsken - Love on the Left Bank) but as you say it is better than nothing.

Looking through it in the bookstore, it seems like an insightful book. Should be a good read.
