Recently someone mentioned a book of photos by Sammy Davis Jr., who was a camera nut.
http://www.amazon.com/Photo-Sammy-Davis-Burt-Boyar/dp/0061146056/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331836400&sr=8-1
I was curious and bought it. The images are interesting as artifacts of their time, but I did not think much of them as images per se. Quality of the printing was also substandard -- the images, not the book.

Went to Foam Amsterdam today where I appeared late for the Sternfeld exhibition, and too early for the NYTimes exhibit. So there wasn't much to see there apart from big wooden crates. Bought 'Starburst' by Kevin Moore in their bookstore. 18 photographers that defined the 'New Color Photography' in America 1970-1980. Beautiful book.

Agree on Starburst (see post #467 & 475).
New for me...
Summertime, by Mark Steinmetz
Trip, by Susan Lipper
Both sort of stopgap purchases, as I was really looking for other titles by these photographers...Greater Atlanta and Grapevine, respectively, which remain elusive (IE: expensive).

I recently got the new Bruce Davidson offering by Steidl titled Black & White. Black & White reissues Circus, Brooklyn Gang, Time of Change, East 100th Street, and Central Park as a limited edition box set (2000 copies). If you are familiar with these books, you will know that they are ridiculously expensive on the second hand market!
I wrote a review of Black & White on my blog (lots of pictures) --> http://www.perfectlight.biz/?p=3747.
The direct links on amazon are Amazon (US) and Amazon (UK). Like what I mentioned in my review, if you like his work and always wanted to own any of the books included in the box set, my recommendation is to "Grab it while you can!".

Just got "Expeditionen ins Emsland" by Gerhard Kromschröder today. A book about a rather funny side of the German landscape Emsland. Kromschröder worked for Spiegel and Stern. [link: http://www.edition-temmen.de/Bildbaende/Expeditionen-ins-Emsland.html]

I got Russel Roberts "Tony Ray Jones" last Saturday.
I think this may be my next book.

"The Dusseldorf School of Photography"
Not quite a new purchase but one which I've re-read recently with much enjoyment. There's a gallery show in my city featuring photographers from this school. Most of the work is selling for north of Euros 100K
It's a pretty decent reference book with beautifully printed photos. Here's a review of the book on my blog: http://adventuresinphoto.com/2012/03/26/the-dusseldorf-school-of-photography-by-stefan-gronert/

and both pricey.
Can you tell us something about the Patterson? I know it made a lot of "Best Books" lists.
I've thought about the Adams, but I have many of his books and suspect most of the work in these new volumes is covered in those.

For Adams: Yes there is probably a great deal of overlap if you own a lot of his orginal work. I own The New West and What we bought.. myself. In this 3 volume sets are some pictures in those chapters that are not in the originals. Not many though...
It is actual cheaper to buy the originals of his best work if you are a novice to R. Adams. That said this 3 volume set is simply wonderul produced ant it contains a complete volume with background on Adams work, which alone makes the set worth to me.
For the Patterson book:
It's a bit difficult to tell in a few lines what makes this book special or even what it is about.
I could not tell it clearer than this lady does:
http://flaunt.com/fob/119/redheaded-peckerwood
The pictures in it are a mixed bag in style and color vs B&W. A lot of these pictures stand as great pictures on their own however.
Production is first grade and the whole concept is higly original.

Steidl has just published "Black & White" by Bruce Davidson which contains 5 books i a hand made cartridge. Signed and numbered in only 2000 sets worldwide. Not really cheap but I could not resist. It should be on its way from Germany to my home.

This box set is really worth getting IMO considering how much the individual books cost (2nd Hand). I wrote a review of "Black & White" on my blog at the following link: http://www.perfectlight.biz/?p=3747.

I also have Davidson's Black & White on it's way to me from Europe. I didn't know it's a limited printing, and I'm not quite sure of the economics of such an offering either. I'm hoping the printing is at the level of Outside Inside.
