Still reading Looking In: The Americans, love the background stories. And got a notice that The Contactsheet has just shipped, so I'm looking forward to that, after ordering it three months ago.
 
If you're an Anglophile or an expat longing for a taste of good old Blighty, England Observed by John Gay (English Heritage 2009, ISBN 978 1 84802 003 0) is well worth getting. Born and raised in Germany, Gay brought an outsider's eye to his visual commentary on life in England, all of it really very loving. He became a successful photographer in the 1940s and 50s and contributed greatly to the culture of his adopted home. A wonderful book.

Starburst: Color Photography in America 1970-1980, edited by Kevin Moore.
This is the catalog for a survey show currently at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Nicely done with 3 essays and plenty of pictures by all the usual suspects. I wouldn't call this a must have. If you are interested, you probably already have much of this work in other books by the individual artists. But it is a nice overview and retrospective look at the period. Similar to the 1981 Sally Eauclaire book, The New Color Photography. Doesn't cover as many photographers as Eauclaire, but has more photos by the ones that it does cover, better presentation and nice essays.

Gone?, by Robert Adams.
As mentioned before, Adams has a ton of books out. I have a lot of them, but have passed on several as well. Bought this one after seeing the prints a couple of weeks ago in San Francisco. I really wanted to see the originals of these because I hadn't seen any of his 35mm work before. They are beautiful little prints and the reproductions in the book will not disappoint.

Thanks for the description of Starburst. I've considered it, but I suspected that I've got a lot of the stuff elsewhere. I'll wait until I can leaf through it rather than buy it sight unseen!

I just received Steve Szabo's The Eastern Shore on Friday (published 1976). Just beautiful reproductions of his early platinum prints. Very nicely made book too: even though it's softcover, it's sewn, and the text pages are letterpress printed.

If your inclined to get it, I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's led to my most recent purchase, A Map of the East, by Leo Rubinfien. Pictures from all over Asia, made in the 80's (Published in '92). Not well known, but very good. Rubinfien is also a really good writer who penned one of the 3 essays in Starburst, as well as one of the best pieces I've ever read on Winogrand.

One of the really sought after titles for a long time, which had become quite expensive. Thankfully for many, there has been a recent reprint. Everyone should have this.

I am looking for a place to rent Kids, but not much luck in my neck of the woods without buying it online.

I really like Tulsa, and wish I had the opportunity to flip through Teenage Lust but my budget comes nowhere close to the asking price for it.
