Amazon US still doesn't have this book...
Florian1234
it's just hide and seek
women are beautiful - garry winogrand
took a chance on a "too good to be true" listing. the paperback binding is just starting to get a little loose, so i'll have to be careful, but there are no missing, bent, or stained pages. all for $13! and it only took seven years of checking bookfinder.com every now and then.![]()

Great find! $13... A nice soft cover copy sold recently on photo eye auctions for $180.
Perseverance pays off.
Cheers,
Gary
(my last purchase was The New Antiquity, by Tim Davis)

Should I get Crewdsons 'Beneath the Roses', Sarfatis 'La Vie Nouvelle' or Shores 'Uncommon Places' next? Any thoughts at all?
Sadly it'll be only one for now (the rest later); film is a priority right now.

Skip beneath the roses. Even if you like the photography (which is to artificial for me), the pictures are not very well reproduced.
Shore is a classic, but I would go for Sarfati!

I actually know all three books, I'm really curious what others think of them though. I like Sarfati and Shore better, from a photographic point of view, but regarding Crewdson - I think the Lynch comparison is quite appropriate. Every time I open Beneath the Roses I find some new hidden joke er repeating element. That man is a genius. I think I'll get Sarfatis book, simply because it's the rarest.
Is there any photographer similar to Shore you guys could recommend? Large format, color, urban areas, .. something along those lines?

Ah and while we're talking about Sarfati - do you guys know Philip-Lorca diCorcia? I really like the way he shoots. If you have _anything_ to recommend similar to him or Sarfati, I'll gladly listen.
For me this thread is the best one on here, I have found so many great photographers I actually get exited every time somebody posts something new.

I agree this is the best thread on the forum.
That's an excellent price and thanks for the tip akalai but I have a pre-order with Amazon that's also (comparatively) inexpensive. They've got to be here soon...Hi Peter, not sure if you already have a binding order for Bruce Davidson's "Outside Inside" but if not I got mine from The Book Depository in the UK $110US shipped.

Yesterday I received West and West, by Joe Deal.
I loved his work from California in the 70's (see New Topographics), but had not seen that much from him since.
This book is a series of photographs from 2005 to 2007 of the North American Plains. All square format, simply and similarly composed with top half sky, bottom half land. Interesting work that points obviously back to the 19th century work of O'Sullivan, Jackson, and others.
I think these are some photographs that would benefit from (deserve) the highest quality reproduction, but the printing of this book doesn't really measure up. Wish that were not the case.
These photos are currently being exhibited at CCP...http://www.creativephotography.org/exhibitions

You might like a book I mentioned a few posts back, The New Antiquity, by Tim Davis. I think he has a web site where you can see some of the images.

Joel Sternfeld's work, particularly American Prospects. It's excellent. His more recent Sweet Earth is good too. Joel Meyerowitz is another giant of large format colour.
A more recent example is Simon Roberts' We English. It's large format colour work, but a more landscapey than Sternfeld's stuff. I really like it.
EDIT: Sorry, Roberts' stuff is not urban. Quite the opposite really.

Highly appreciated, I didn't know Roberts and Davis. I've only looked at Davis images so far - and wow! Exactly what I was looking for.
A LF photographer whose work I really enjoy is Gabriel Benaim - check out his seris about Tel Aviv.

Finally picked up Tulsa, a book I've been wanting to add to my collection for a long time and really a book that should be in every collection.

My "Inside, Outside" by Bruce Davidson arrived today. All 10 kg's of it. OK, if you are buying ONE photo book this year (all right there are three in the box) - this is the one to have!!!!
Gorgeous printing quality and as there are three books, you dont risk severe damage if you drop one copy on a foot - all three would probably send you to ER though.
So forego that new gadget and spend your money wisely.

Aargh, glad you got yours Tom. I heard from Amazon yesterday about when I'm going to get mine so I'll stop whining about it. Sounds like you're enjoying it!
