Were you in Hannover by any chance? His talk was amazing.
martin
Were you there? Saw it online via their livestream only. Amazing on the one hand, since he gave his personal stuff and some information glimmered through how he works (that's a question I asked him, but did not get reply at all - via e-mail, not personally, didn't meet him in person), and about this new project "facing change", which sounds very good.
On the other hand the photos were well known, of course, as it was also kind of a retrospective.

Yeah I was there. He's an incredibly nice guy, he came way early and chatted with everyone who was interested, and later he stayed at the party with the students.

Log out, go shoot.
Interestingly enough, the Subway series is in "Inside,Outside" but printed as black and white! Different look to them in bl/w.
Hi Tom ! Those subway pictures from inside/outside are not the one from the book entitled "Subway". I was kinda disapointed as i absolutely love this serie.

I have to unearth my copy of "Subway" and check. They are obviously from the same time, but it is quite possible that Bruce shot it both in color an bl/w. Anyway, they are a stunning collection of his work.
As a mental exercise, sit down and try to pick out 5-600 pictures that you think represents your viewpoint over multiple decades. Not easy and the to keep a constant quality in the images (content - not film/lens etc).

Hey Florian, I don't have a facebook account. Do you want to send me the image? I saw him taking it with a Canon-Something.
On Topic:
Check out “The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of Their Dreams" by Alessandra Sanguinetti, maybe some of you are interested in that kind of photography. I really like what can be seen on the New Yorker website.
If you don't like those pictures, there's a lot more (diverse) photography on the website here: http://alessandrasanguinetti.com/.

So the "Outside Inside" book has arrived and it's excelent just like everyone was raving about it. Highly recommended. i think I got the last affordable copy. They took it off Amazon and now all the copies seem to go 200+
While we're on topic of Davidson, here are a couple of related links:
A recent interview on Lens about this very book.
Also, he'll give a lecture/booksigning in NYC in October.
Get the book and enjoy, it's a masterpiece.

I finally ordered Jason Eskenazi's "Wonderland" online from a German book dealer in the night from sunday to monday.
While already thinking that they would get it from a UK dealer (since the publisher's name was the one from the UK dealer
) and given the fact that they state "delivers in 6-10 working days" in the description I got an email on monday, telling me that they would not have it in stock and it would take a while to get it for me.
I then emailed the dealer to ask what that would mean and why they don't tell it in the description clearly. Now they tell me that they will get it from an extra warehouse and this might take the stated 6-10 days.
Kind of hilarious, but as long as they come over with the book (nothing paid yet, luckily ^^)...
Ever had that experience?
I'm totally curious about "Wonderland". Next month maybe Suau's "Beyond the fall" as good used copy.

Just for fun, here are the books on my wishlist, maybe someone has some comments:
- Bruce Gilden "Wonderful Catastrophe"
- Michael Kenna "Retrospective" (any of them)
- Rena Effendi "Pipe dreams"
- Josef Koudelka "Invasion '68" (been after this book for ages, no clue why I still don't have it)
- Nikos Economopoulos "In the Balkans"
- Thomas Dworzak "Kavkas" (Sooo looking forward for this book to come out!!! OMG!!11!!)
- James Nachtwey "Inferno"
- Larry Clark "Tulsa"
- Jason Eskenazi "Wonderland" (actually, I don't think I'm gonna bother with this one, doesn't seem to be my cup of tea)
- Bruce Davidson "Brooklyn Gang" (yeah right, that book costs like 1 billion Great British Pound Sterlings. Plus I got "Outside Inside" and that's all the Davidson I might ever need).
.... and adding more to the list. Love photography books. I've kicked GAS in favour of BAS.

Well, what do you know, after writing above post I decided to leave work early. Stopped by a bookshop on the way home without much hope of finding anything, but they had one book I've mentioned above - Rena Effendi's "Pipe dreams". Great book, about BP's pipeline running through Azerbadzan, Georgia and Turkey. B&W photos describing life and environment surrounding the pipe in these three countries. Recommended.

Got it, nice photo's but awful printing (imo)
But for any street shooters out there I'd recommend 'Street Seen-The Psychological Gesture in American Photography 1940-1959' by Lisa Hostetler
Lots of knock you dead photographs about how street photography fitted into the wider culture of the 40s and 50s.

Congrats, looks promising. Is it mostly medium format? Looks like it...

Florian - I can't judge if there was any cropping, but most of the photos look to be shot on 35mm (or equivalent). I think it's all film too (I'm basing this on the Thank-You notes, where she thanks some dude for letting her use his darkroom).
After going through this book again I can upgrade my recommendation to Highly Recommended (of course it's a matter of taste).

After looking around, it seems that a big amount of the book is on her website apparantly. (btw, she herself's very attractive  )Florian - I can't judge if there was any cropping, but most of the photos look to be shot on 35mm (or equivalent). Hmmm, after looking at her site and seeing her with a TLR in her hands... you might be right - lots of medium format in the book (I think I didn't notice due to the full-page layout in the book). And yes, she is attractive!
The website does feature all or almost all photos from the book so you get an idea. But I must say the print quality is very good, I'm happy about this purchase.
For everyone else - Rina's website. Click on the book link, that's the one.
