latest additions to your library

Jillian Edelstein's "Truth and Lies": Victims and perpetrators involved in the South African Truth and Reconciliation hearings. Some of the photos are currently on exhibit at the Woolfson & Tay bookshop in Bermondsey Square in London.
 
Just an update to say that I received the Bruce Davidson book "England and Scotland 1960". I can only say that it is superb - every bit as good as "Circus" which is really saying something.

I'd even go so far as to say that, on his day, he is at least as good as anyone.
 
No comment on Outside Inside yet I want to set aside a generous time slot. But I did think of making one of those You tube videos on unpacking it 😀

John Gossage The Pond has just arrived, the new edition of course, have you seen the price of the first one ? It requires quiet concentration and a good guide which Badgers essay, in this edition, provides.
 
I have bought book Más Világ / Other World by couple Judit Horváth and György Stalter published in 1998. It gives two views on same topic. They together traveled and visited gipsy communities in Hungary for 15 years. I like it more than Koudelka's gipsies as I'm finding it more personal and heartful. I wish I saw the exhibition.
 
If by "best" you mean "most damaging to my financial well-being", then I heartily agree! ;-) I can resist the urge to buy new gear, but books ... I'm a weak, weak man. Look forward to your updates, Jan.

By the way, I can't figure out what's up with the "Street Photography Now" scheduled delivery dates. Because the book will be out on next monday it seems (Oct. 4) and they (German Amazon) will ship it in the time frame between 18 and 30 of Oct. 🙄

Three, in the past two weeks:

1. Anders Petersen :: Cafe Lehmitz. Someone on this forum posted about Petersen a little while ago. I hadn't heard of him, but was impressed by a lot of his work. Finally bought a piece.

2. Victor Blackman :: My Way with a Camera. I came across his photograph of Françoise Hardy, and wanted to know more about him. I had been completely unfamiliar.

3. Richard Avedon+Truman Capote :: Observations. I already had a copy of this book, for ten years. One of the first 'major purchases' i made. I originally saw the book while i was in high school, scouring public libraries for all photography books. I swore that once i had made some money after college, i'd find a copy. So, last week, i was looking for a link so that i could show the contents to someone, and came across an ebay listing. Only $50! And it's in better condition than my old copy.
 
Impressed by Light: British Photographs from Paper Negatives, 1840-1860

I'm really interested in Paper Negatives and I found this recently at a local photo store, but couldn't get myself to spend what they wanted for a used copy. Then I found it for 2/5ths the price on Amazon, it arrived yesterday. 😀
 
I walked into a book store yesterday. I saw a 2007 copy of Sebastiao Salgado's book "Africa". I bought it for $50. I see it goes for much more online. His B&W images are superb.
 
Picked up a copy of Brassai: The Eye of Paris. It's a little dinged up; I found it tucked away in a bookstore where it had apparently sat for quite a while. I was able to get it for a very good price.

I recently bought a copy of The Jazz Loft Project. It's going to take me some time to go through the book in detail. But, from my initial perusal, I would say that it looks terrific. The sheer scope of the project is astounding.
 
Street Photography Now, by Sophie Howarth and Stephen McLaren.

Really, really good. I'd seen a lot of the work on the internet, but it's always something else again to see high-quality reproductions. Highly recommended.
