And..?
Please do tell, if you saw the original how does it compare?
I just received an email saying my copies on its way, but it takes a long time to get down here, probably after Xmas...
Cheers,

Koudelka's "Exiles" in hard cover.
Larry Towell's "Afghanistan"
I have the "Exiles" in soft cover and decided to spring for the hard covers version. It is a better "translation" visually than "Gypsies". The soft cover of that one was better printed than the hard cover re-issue. With "Exiles" - the new hard cover version is very good. nicer printing.
"Afghanistan" is a bit of a hit and miss. The layout is all over the place, captions are "hand written" and sometimes difficult to read. Visually very good and strong.

Santa brought me two great photography books:
Trent Parke's Minutes to Midnight, beautiful buy you already know about it
and
Davis Campany: The Open Road, Photography and the American Road Trip . interesting if you like the "on the road" photography
And, being myself a book-addict I also received another small beautiful (non photo) book: 84, Charing Cross Road by Helen Hanff

I just got a copy of "Todd Hido on Landscapes, Interiors and the Nude" published by Aperture. This is one of a new series of workshops in book form. You get two things in this book - a selection of some of Hido's best photos very well printed, plus a series of comments by him about his artistic development and aesthetic approach. A good buy.

I got this one too. Love it! It was my most eagerly anticipated holiday gift since childhood.
Unfortunately it got a small damage in shipping.
I really loved the into by HCB. And as with any Steidl publication -- it's quality!
Anywhere else have the decisive moment in stock?

it seems interesting, I didn't know this. By the way Hido will make a presentation of his work (probably a workshop as well) next year near where I live, great!

Lynn the bottom line on the Gautrand book is that if you don't have anything of Doisneau's get it, it's really good.Taschen are releasing a new hardcover 540 page book on Robert Doisneau on 5th December. Edited by Gautrand, containing more than 400 photos. I'd like to hear any impressions of this book when anyone here receives a copy.
I have Doisneau's Paris which is also wonderful, and there are some crossover photos in both books. This new Taschen book has slightly contrastier reproductions so there's a slight loss of detail from the Paris book which was published by Flammarion in 2005, but both books are marvellous; what a talent he was!

Robert Frank "The Americans" - Gift from my parents.
Craig Stecyk "Dogtown - The Legend of the Z-Boys" - gift from my wife.
While the first one is absolutely beautiful, I must admit I'm slightly disapointed by the print quality of the second. Especially the b/w lack contrast and detail and numerous images are only thumbnail sized. I had hoped for more, because I love his photography.
