Here's soemthing to try - get some friends together and tell them you are going to auction a £5 note (or dollar or euro). Put the note on the table and open the bidding. Naturally, there will be lots of enthusiasm up to about £4.75. But don't be surprosed if the bidding goes over £5 - some people want to win at any price. This is a game played in management training as it helps you find your most competitive staff. For some of us beating someone else is more important than common sense.

Check out the bid history, it wasn't even a sniping war. The "losing bidder" put in a max bid of $200 (!) four days before the auction ended.

I also love the fact that "frugalphotographer" stopped bidding at 61.00 -- and it was won by "psychobarbie666" for 202.50!

I believe I paid $109. for my black one and later $69. for my silver one, both new at Photo Village. I paid $189. for my T at the same place. All three are gems. I paid full price for my R at B&H, but it had just come out that time.

I paid £49 (about $86) for mine new and boxed from a retail store, then got a 12mm Heliar for a steal from the same place too!

By my reckoning that's 3x the going rate for a new one and 4x the going rate for a s'hand one. Mind you it's like that on the 'bay when you are selling stuff, sometimes things make no money at others, they go over the top. Overall it averages out.

I constantly see people bidding more for a used item on Ebay than what the same item sells for new at B&H Photo. :bang:

I got mine new in box for £25 when I bought my 21mm from Robert White - it is silver though. that ebay price is a mad price!

Pictures help and that listing has a bunch of nice ones, especially ones depicting the use of the camera. I've started using better product shots in my ebay listings and they definitely do get the bids up.

On this one, there is going to be one very unhappy, and much out of luck bidder.

Anyone familar with eBay listings would immediately see that the seller said VF and Lens are NOT included. It's plainly there - if you are "familar" with eBay.

But use of the oversized picture will definitely "distract" a newbie buyer.

This Gooeyduck engages in "sharp practice" which, while not "illegal" is shall we say, "not fully ethical". I won't go near his listings. But eventually he will "morph" into another name.

Sad thing is that the buyer probably is a knowledgeable photographer (who else buys RF film cameras?) who has just learned a hard lesson.
