Well-known
Just received a 1976 Kiev 4a [ 2 ] from cupog ... both this the 1970 K 4a , and the UK Kiev 4 , are awaiting 1947 script '' labels '', that script is just too crude !
It's really smooth and quiet.
The finish does not show the rough deterioration of the meter area of my late Kiev 4 ,s , so I wonder if the revised top plate was not made too well ?
It's less 'wam '' in colour to my 1970 , but not appreciably poor in comparison ... it's also smooth enough to indicate that the inside , now at least , is reasonable too .
i am concluding that even the poorer made cameras , having survived , maybe repaired by those fixing workshops [ of employees taking the best parts to sort non existent quality control ??? ] and prepared by careful sellers , are the best you can get !
I read somewhere that a Kiev 4 is prefered by some because of the aperture / shutter speed dials providing an instant readout of comdinations for any known exposure .
i had not thought of this , but i realise that this works for me too !
My long suffering Oleg Kiev 4 is now finished in '' brushed aluminium '' as in hand painted acrylic paint , with deliberate broad brush strokes ...if I can't hide them ....
I spray mounted the old tan leather back on , but will replace it .
Seeing it , I can't understand why this was never done - though needing black inside may have been a konsideration ... and it needs the tan to make it work !
Pics to follow - not at home , new mac portable !
it looks much lighter and more delicate ... to the point of wanting an early Kiev 4 remade in silver with KNeB face plate .
This would be my fave user ... having said that , I wonder if it will be any more favoured than my do-it-myself silvered / tanned / 1947 labelled
