Working with the new to me D800 is really a hoot. I will have to say the learning curve is steep, but I am trying. I'm glad I had film Nikon SLRs to practice with (especially my F6), before I got this beast. I don't think I would have known where to start otherwise.

Anyone else get a new (to you) dSLR or SLR for Christmas?

Here is one I did this morning while learning to use MLU and a remote. Pretty sure the D800 is a keeper...

Well, it wasn't with xmas, but I picked up a second hand Canon 1Ds mark II this afternoon. I don't expect a huge learning curve, as I already have the mark I :-D

Got a D800E - but had to sell my Leica M8 and lenses to pay for it.

Was a bit worried as I've only been using digital rangefinders since 2004, especially as the Nikon came with a 500 page manual!

Thankfully, despite the plethora of functions, it's a really well thought through camera, and it only took a week to get thoroughly used to it (though I did buy a book on it!), and to familiarise myself with the settings and functions that suit me.

I really like the camera too - but 36 MP means that a larger external hard drive for storage is on the shopping list!

Oh my, I think it is going to take me longer than a week...

It is absolutely a well thought out camera. I have been using this book in addition to the manual: http://www.bythom.com/nikond800guide.htm although at 851 pages it is also a lot to digest! I do recommend it as it is a very thorough companion text to the Nikon User's Manual.

I absolutely love the camera, I will be happy when and if I can master all the capabilities.
