Unfortunately, a modern synthetic leatherette is probably the better logical choice. But, logic be damned, give me the feel and smell of a dead animal carcuss glued to my camera body!

Leatherette is so cheap that if you ruin it, you can replace it for a fraction of the cost of leather.

I want to re-coat all my cameras in leather, but leatherette may be better - and most spouses are vegetarians these days *hides leather bound notebooks*

Since a Bessa is leatherette, I bought a beautiful smelly (good smell) leather half case from Luigi. Case is closed. I rest my case. (sic)

Leatherette is more practical than leather, but it doesn't look or feel as nice.
