The grip on my r-d1 is starting to show some wear. I like the half case, but I don't want to a. spend the money and b. add volume to the camera. A case also makes it incovenient to remove the card and battery and use the tripod mount (I know Luigi has a solution for the tripod mount).
I have been thinking about covering the r-d1 with a leather trim. If I glue leather to the rubber grip, do you think it will reduce the resell value of the camera? Although I don't intend to sell it anytime soon.
Has anyone done this before or have a better idea?

Why not just remove the rubber grips and keep them and glue the new cover directly to the body ?

I missed what?
A leather trimmed RD1 would look nice. Alligator, Stingray, or even Ostrich would look nice for sure.

What a nice idea, does anyone make leather kits
for the R-D1?

It should not be to hard to make it your self. Just take your time. Use a non permanant glue also.

It's digital. Unless you are selling it now, nothing will reduce its resale value more than time. Do what you like with it.

I like the stock body material, but I do see a market here for CRR Luton. The paint is horrible and comes off very quickly, exposing the ugly magnesium metal underneath. I would deffinitely pay to have a real paint job and Leica-type leatherette.

Yeah, I agree, do what you want with it...funny, I was thinking the same thing last night, as I noticed all my trim is coming loose. A nice aged honey leather...hmm....

Camera Leather does kits for the Bessa so may be able to help. Also, I can supply a limited quantity of leather together with a good adhesive for a nominal fee. This would either be uncut or I could cut it if someone could send a pattern. (And yes Steve, I do have some nice honey coloured leather!!)

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Kim, thanks for the offer.
I will ponder on this for a while.
