I bet Leica still has a middle priced model coming eventually. If they just made the M, people would be pissed. The ME is for purists and CCD fans going forward. It was smart, but the ME better not be the model they think fits between the M and the X2. There's gotta be room for something else.

Leica, biggest trolls man. Re-release M9P with a red Leica sticker at the front "GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY!"

I have an image of a step function in my head, but it is the price chart of an M9.

About the M: I bet Dante Stella and a few others who asked for a M like this months ago are smiling now:

US prices:
M-E $5450
M $6950
If true, not bad.

According to "uuronl" on DPReview:
"I just got off the phone with the Leica store in DC. US prices:
M-E $5450
M $6950"

i wonder what my rd1 is worth now...
Hey, if Leica really lowered prices, that should be commended. Didn't expect that.

If you disregard the bordering-on-hilarious advertising talk, they basically repackaged the M9 and dropped the price a bit to sell through their stock of sensors/components along with the expectedly hyper-expensive M. Just like they kept selling the M8 when the M9 came around. And everyone is disappointed.

Suddenly, the Sony RX1 doesnt seem like such a bad deal after all.. You get both camera AND lens for 2800$..

I think the M-E is horribly dissapointing. The only piece of mind one gets is a factory warranty. The M9 is obviously the better, choice; same camera with no lack of features of the M-E.
How anyone would pay more for a used M9, I will never understand. They could have made this much more interesting and cheaper (perhaps?) with a manual film advance, no lcd, and manual iso control.
That is a boat load of money for something that has already been on the market.

Well, suddenly Sony and Fuji don't look such rip offs...
Time for me to go and say my prayers in the alter of Nikon. The only decent camera company out there who really gives a damn about its customers and photography.

Wait, what features is the ME missing from the M9?

I have assembled a nice collection of Leica lenses, at no small expense, and while I am happy to go on using them on Leica film bodies, I was really hoping for an affordable FF digital body from Leica. I had an M8 and just never took to it, and I had an M9 that simply cost too much for me to feel comfortable with. I hoped that the M-E would be a nice compromise, but that price is just silly. Damn shame.

Thankfully, Fuji exists. Its cameras are far from perfect, but they get a lot right at a decent price. Not a DSLR fan at all, but Nikon and Canon have nothing to worry about from Leica (as usual).
