Good day

Does anyone know what the rectangular steel plate stored in the pouch is for.
I reciently brought the case for my 111a.

Regards Andrew

Hi,

Welcome aboard.

A steel plate is a new one to me. Usually they have/had a white plastic card for scribbling pencil notes, or a certificate from Leitz saying tax and duty have been paid or an exposure guide but the guides were 30's items only.

They look like this:-

I have a couple of cases with the steel plate still in. Usually they are glued into place. I assume they are there so you can close the case without needing a camera inside to push the popper against. I have also found exposure tables, a white celluloid sheet for pencil notes and the tops of film cartons to remind the user what film is loaded. The pocket seems like a useful little feature.
