Leica 2012 lens Prices Increases

The marginal difference in some of these lens to its competitor doesnt warrant the HUGE price difference, imo.

... "its competitor", which competitor ? There is no alternative for the 21/1.4 ASPH, 24/1.4 ASPH, 35/1.4 ASPH, 50/1.4 ASPH, 50/0.95 ASPH, 75/2.0 APO, and 135/3.4 APO from anyone ...

Out of interest, when was the last time Leica sold anything "M" for under $1000?
(Apart from replacement lens caps and stuff, that is.)

i don't care...

leica is so far and away out of my league, money wise, that right now it means absolutely nothing to me.
might as well chat about the price of yachts for all that it concerns my reality.

face the facts folks...leica is not of the people unless you're one of the 1%'s...

And UP go S/H prices again......
I'm glad I've collected the bodies and lenses I like. I won't see any cash benefit as I'm not selling any of my Leica lenses but I'm sure they'll pay for something for my kids someday. Who knows maybe they'll want to use them.
I've never bought anything new from Leica as I don't believe they are worth the money and by buying s/h I can get more of my wish list.
In all honesty I'd have enough with an M6 and a 35 and 50 Summicron anyway.

I'm down to one Leica body M4-2 and one Leica lens. An old 50mm Summilux v3 pre-asph e46. I could sell it and make a tidy profit, but then what would I use???? Does the Nokton 1.5 even come close???

OCCUPY SOLMS!

Well, the recent lack of availability of Leica products and corresponding soaring used marked due to this lack of availability gives Leica the perfect justification to increase their prices - hey, they're still cheaper that what people are asking (and getting) on the used market!

As an aside, I still don't understand the lack of availability of Leica products from a business perspective, as I'm sure Leica could be making way more $ if they had been putting out enough supply to meet demand...

It's basic economics. Supply and demand.
Like stated above there is HUGE demand on the Chinese market, also for 2nd hand Leica lenses and filmcameras. All the shops in Germany i knew that were loaded with 2nd hand Leica stuff 2 -3 years ago have empty shelfs. Others like Meister, who still have a fair amount of 2nd hand stock, charge prices about 50%-100% above what we normaly see here in the classifieds.

Of course the toughest decision about choosing a new Leica lens is always the same for us bottom feeders ...

Which kidney? 😛

I thought you were growing kidneys on the back's of mice down there Keith. You couldn't have got much change from a kidney for your new F6 😀

The cheapest lens on that list still comes in at well over what my F6 cost me and the dearest (Noctilux) would have bought me ten of them! 😱

Courtesy of a small inheritance from the estate of my recently deceased dad I could probably be completely stupid and spend a fair chunk of it on an M9 and a couple of lenses and thumb my nose at the prices. Though I'm sure my very frugal father would likely rise up from his resting place and slap me ... with good reason too IMO. 😛

I think I'll need to disagree with that, even if we discount the more affordable X1, and go for an M9 and lens. A regular smoker probably spends more than that a few years. People with children could spend that in a year. Those who like new cars, not used, will "waste" that amount of money.

Yes, Leica is for people with some spare cash, but if we don't spend on what society tells us "everyone buys", then it's surprising how quickly those in decent employment can save up some money.

I'm certainly not in the "1%", but Leica gear is within reach as I don't smoke, don't have kids, don't own a car, plus the economic "disaster" was the best thing ever to happen to my mortage...

... I don`t own a car anymore because I have a kid.

I'm in complete agreement with you Keith, Just a bit of gentle morning banter over my tea and cornflakes as I know what a good sport you are 😉

Buying Leica new is just not an option for me. I couldn't justify it. If a used "bargain" and I use that word relatively, comes along I may bite but I'd have to come into a lottery win or something to consider a new M9/10 body and a couple of lenses too. As I don't play the lottery, I can't see it happening too soon 😀
Hmm, Just off to the shop to get a ticket 🙂
