To be clear, I think that Erik was answering a question that would refer to lenses that had not yet been serviced. My lens, which was recently serviced, does not have any haze issues.

That aperture control hood seems really awesome. I'm guessing it's the VALOO? Did you have any issues using that with the 35mm lens? It's designed for the 50mm right?

The VALOO works fine on the 3.5cm Elmar. There is some minor mechanical vignetting just the very very edge of the corners. The hood is a good match.

Yes, this is what I experienced with that hood on the 3.5 Elmar, but in no ways was it really bad.

How's that M2 holding up? Good I hope.

I always understood that VALOO was primarily for darkroom and close focussing attachment use with 50mm Elmar. Although handy for adjusting the aperture it is comparatively heavy and (in my opinion) spoils the balance.

I agree with Michael here. The FOOKH is the most beautiful shade for the Elmar 35, but not only for the Elmar 35, also for the Elmar 50 and the Summar. It is wide enough for even the thickest fingers to change the f-stop.

I never got on with the 3.5 35mm Elmar, maybe it was a poor example or more likely I am a poor photographer. However...when I sold it I kept the FOOKH.

This in Leicashop is my favourite 35mm though mine is not in the same condition....nor did it cost that much!!!

I didn't realise it has its own specific code number.

Yes Summarons seem to have taken a jump lately. Elmar 35mm on Ebay seem to range from $200- $1000 USD.....(the latter price being quite a stretch IMO)...i may have paid $150 for mine.

Don't you mean the FLQOO, which is the hood that you illustrate. The FOOKH is the later hood for 35mm Summaron and Elmar.
The FLQOO you have mentioned in other posts as your favourite is what you illustrate and was introduced in black in 1936 for the Elmar 3.5cm.

Yes, you are right, the large one is the FLQOO and the short one is the FOOKH.
I'm getting old I guess.
For the Elmar 35mm f/3.5 the FLQOO is the best.

My 35mm Elmar focuses very easily and smoothly, and the aperture is very easy to change. It was serviced by DAG earlier this year. One that is stiff in focusing likely needs serviced, that is not normal.

On my Elmar 3.5cm f3.5 lens which is scaled in "metres" and is a war-time lens, Leitz seem to have "gone over the top" with engraving focusing marks on the distance scale.
Most examples of this lens have 13 engraved marks.
My lens made in 1941 is engraved with 18 marks.
I wonder why they have engraved the 5 extra marks ?.
Why are the extra distances needed in war-time. Any ideas anyone?.
