Leica 50/0.95 Noctilux ASPH lens?

And Leica is saying that the new Noctilux rivals the Summilus ASPH stopped down. Now reconsider that sticker shock.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but more curious. Why do you think an SLR is better for the fast 21? Don't lenses get easier to focus (even fast ones) the wider they are? I would think if you could focus a 50/1.4 on an RF, you could do a 21/1.4...

Fast wides are very hard to focus on SLRs, much easier to focus on rangefinders. SLRs are much better at focusing fast telephotos, and in the normal range the two types of cameras are about the same in focusing accuracy.

I used to have a 24mm/2 Nikkor and it was not as good for low light photography as I thought it would be because subjects smear into and out of focus as you rack back and forth. So a 21mm or 24mm/1.4 is best suited to rangefinders.

It is the way we see, in three different ways: peripheral vision, focus, mental attention. I reckon that is why pictures with careful oof backgrounds/thin-dof are so pleasing: the alternative is not natural.

yeah pleasing for puppies, wifes, children, bugs, studio shoots. But 10 grands price doesnt appeal for amateurs who shots like that. Im not saying what is right and wrong. Myself, I like street photography and zone focussing is easier to get pictures you want. So pictures in result feel more spontant when you use leica like a snap shot p&s camera. Just point and snap. Snap, snap 😀

Maddoc stated possible reason. Nocti has already large focusing throw distance and otherwise it'd kill purpose of RF shooting. Who wants macro, go for DSLR instead.

To the Noctilux detractors: thou dost protest too much! You are all secretly Noctilux Nannies without the stones to come out and admit it! I myself plan to win lotto this xmas and as I doubt I'll know what to spend it on first, I'm going to buy this lens and, just to p1ss everyone off, will post copious photos of brick walls at f/0.95 on FP4+ pulled to ISO 50 in broad daylight.
