The Summarit wide open, drips with characterfulness.
The Canon is more compact.

I like my Summarit, I always use it i b&w. I agree that it behaves very differently when stopped down. Maybe at 1.5 it may be too soft, but it holds more centre sharpness and this combined with out of focus give it a quite unique charachter. A couple of stops further, it is like, even better, than an early summicron.

Would like to find a canon 50/1.5.

I agree with Frank. The Summarit has tons of character. The Canon, to me, looks boring.

I tried a Summarit a couple of years ago and didn't like it, but acquired another and will try it again.

Always have been partial to Sonnars, and the 50/1.5 Canon is hard to beat if you like that formula.
