Leica 50mm pre asph summilux vs. Nokton 50mm f/1.1

For the price and speed. It's hard to resist the Nokton. The matter of fact is I tend to classic glass a bit instead of modern.

Oh yeah, is there any distortion on the Nokton?

just bought the Nokton, couldnt resist fast glass and no way im getting the noctilux (until im rich or something)

the nokton is not distortion free...

nokton at 1.1 or so:

the size is what often stops me to use it

never experienced focus shift problems

The Summilux version II is a fine performer, but much smaller than the Nokton 50mm f/1.1. They are therefore different beasts. A thorough comparison between the Nokton 50mm f/1.1, the Nokton 50mm f/1.5 and the Summiliux 50mm f/1.4 would be very interesting. Any M9 owner around with those lenses at hand?

Erik.

I'm actually in the process of deciding if I want to sell my nokton and buy a summilux v2. The nokton is just so large, and i don't use the f1.1 too often, however when it's needed it's very nice. Also, ever since I discovered the summilux, i've wanted one more than any other lens...

On my Flickr, go to my Leica M3 set to view pictures form the Nokton. Almost all except a few of the recent ones were taken by the nokton.

For those who own/have owned both: what is the size comparison and how much longer is the focus throw on the summilux (E43, V2) than the nokton?

Thanks everyone

what made my decision about the Nokton was
a- I want to shoot with available light
b- What fastest options do I have? : Canon 0.95 adapted, Nokton, Noctilux
c- Canon isnt that good as i've read, Noctilux is soooo high priced (for me) and the Nokton is in the middle

Got the Nokton and hope size wont affect, if I had the money for the Noctilux, that one would be big and heavy as well and I would be more than happy with that thing tiring my neck/arms

keep the nokton then I say, just my 2 cents

What if you consider the Canon 50/1.2. Will that change your decision?

I have recently put the canon in my consideration. I have seen a few go for around $300ish. not as fast as the nokton but it's cheaper, smaller and lighter. The only thing is that I am not sure is image quality is something i am after. I tend to toward to the modern lens a bit moment.

Well, you had :Canon LTM 50/1.2, M-Hexanon 50/1.2 and LTM Hexanon 60/1.2 to consider as well. Each is a better choice than CV 50/1.1 IMO.

Although it's the matter of taste and personal preference, I would like to hear your comparison on the Canon 50/1.2 and Nokton 1.1. in terms of image quality.

(sorry if i am off topic here.)

Well, I never owned a CV 50/1.1, so all I can say about it is based on web images. A good Canon 50/1.2 LTM is a very sharp lens, had nice (IMO) bokeh. Usually Canon is cheaper, it is also smaller. Canon has a longer focus throw (may or may not be your preference) and it flares a lot more. Nokton 50/1.1 is not a bad lens, but not all that for the price. CV 50/1.5 is a better choice IMO. But all is personal preference, of course.
You can see some Canon LTM 50/1.2 of mine here:
