Leica 50mm Summicron DR repair and cleaning information

To clean the Summicron rigid 50mm from haze is easy. Unscrew the optical unit from the focusing unit. This is very easy with the rigid. To reach the haze you have to go through the back door. Remove the F-stop ring (three screws). Then remove the retaining ring (with the two slots) at the back, and then, one after the other, take the two optical blocks (from the back group) out. They have no thread. Clean the lenses with a dry cotton swab. You can reach the back of the front group from the back with a dry cotton swab. Put the optical units back and put the retaining ring back on. Done. Can be done in an hour. I just did it.

Only when you have to clean between the two front lenses the removal of the filter ring is needed, but this is rarely necessary. The haze is always around the f-stop blades.
