I also like the Elmar-M 50mm f/2.8.

Leica M3, Elmar-M 50 mm f/2.8, Tmax400 printed on Ilford MGIV fb.

yesterday I've developed first roll with Summitar, Yellow 1 filter and Ilford Pan 400 in D76 stock. I really like the oof areas at f/8.

Here are some portraits from a well cleaned (by DAG) Summarit M-mount 50/1.5 (were taken on an RD1 @ ISO 800).

I think a cleaned version of this lens is great, in some ways, smoother bokeh than the lux 50/1.4.

Does need a hood outdoors though, funky size, I think 40.5mm

Helen,
You have some of the most positive postings here at RFF. It is so refereshing to see more support than being put down.
Thanks.

If it is the same as the LTM version, except the mount, the filter is 41mm :eek:,, But, B&H as a 41-46 step ring for a short song. and Heaverstar (Ebayer) has a 46mm tilted/vented hood for under $20 shipped.

Thanks Paul, and all. I sold the lens a while back, so don't need a filter for the Summarit M, but it was a good lens.

I'm now using a Coll. Summicron, and J8 for 50s, but would like a Summilux again.

I have a stunningly clean Elmar and a slightly hazy Summitar. The Summitar is quickly becoming a favorite on my new to me M8.

This is a very nice image.
The Summitar seems to be a favorite of many people here.

edited: did you mean Summarit?

as I heard the Summitar is the coated follow-up to it's predecessor the Xenon;
I don't know if there exist uncoated Summitars

hhhhmmmm........... my Summitar is currently with Youxin Ye being CLAed. He said it was an uncoated wartime version. So it makes me wonder.

The Summitar was my first leica lens. Mine is coated with a hexagonal diaphragm and I've done everything in my power to convince myself that various 50's are "better". I have used Canon 50 1.8 and various Summicron versions only to find myself returning to the Summitar time and time again. The fellow I bought it from told me that the Summitar had a very special rendering and his insight has proven to be true.
