You can get a good Taiwan copy from Mark Hama for about $15 if my memory is correct.

Not a bad idea, I'll give him a call to see if he still has any.

I got a copy for $25 and i thought that was excessive😱
Some people haven't much upstairs if you ask me. I have payed too much for a Leica camera or two but at least I can and do admire them for what they are but, a leader template......😕

As I recall reading somewhere, the ABLON came in a kit w/ a some sort of knife and maybe instructions. That full kit should be oughta' sight pricewise now.

I bid $80 on that item, and the final price was low by current standards. I then lost a Prinz-branded version by a buck ($26 final). Fine - I'll just trim the film with my teeth. 🙂

Has anybody tried to do-it-yourself using thin sheet brass stock? Or maybe a slightly thick piece of sheet plastic? Shouldn't be to hard to make one that is serviceable, if not totally authentic...:angel:

I would like an easy template or "repurposed" hinge from a big-box like Home Depot. I've been hand-cutting, which doesn't seem that hard, but a template would be even better. I was thinking about just buying some plexiglass and taking a Dremel to it... But then again, the templates are $25 on eBay, which is more than they should be, but still impulse-buy level...

If it helps, you are willing to pay it and 'win' the auction then I don't see a problem. I wouldn't be without mine and it keeps a wonderful, old camera in everyday use. Wonderful bit of kit; Leica branded or not.
