Since I got my CL, I've been using it (mostly with B&W film), and it is one of the most fun cameras I've ever owned. If there is a toy for older guys, this is right up there with the best. I keep thinking about getting a regular(?) M body, but this one is such a breeze to carry and use! Not the least of its charms are the carry lugs. True, the meter isn't reliable but on a sunny day... The viewfinder is great even though I wear glasses, I had the frame counter fixed, and the kit is a go-anywhere camera: light and easy to use and with that gorgeous 40mm Summicron! I see why Leica glass is tops.

With best regards.

The CL w/ 40 & 28 are on my list. I've put my search on hold due to a mix of other priorities, but you are sorta screwing that up, tempting me to just go for it NOW ...

my favorite traveling system camera from the film era. 40, 90, and 21 mm lenses made a complete kit. :)

the cle was my favourite of the bunch...the cl was fun but i preferred the cle.
i find currently that the closest cameras to it are the fuji xe series.

I've been tempted from time to time, but never quite pulled the trigger. The CLE is certainly a fine camera. But it must be the latent collector in me that would prefer the CL. And since Sherry is the world's best informed and most skilled on the CL and the M5 (which I do have), I know where to get these worked on!

Constantly going back-and-forth whether to sell my Leica CL set - had it in the classifieds for a while a couple months ago, but there were no takers and then looking at the images from that lens...

It's a difficult one - I just have too many 35mm cameras and not enough time to use them all within reasonable intervals. To be honest I'd rather sell my M2 or M6 - but I'd lose much more money on those - so keep an eye on the classifieds if you're interested in a near-perfect boxed set (with working meter and original hood and cases) - maybe I'll list it again.

It's a joy to use though - so maybe it won't come up after all... :bang:

I love my CL! It's always with me and at times I wonder why I have an M4. Rhetorical question of course.

The summicron 40 that goes with the CL is an amazing lens. Sharp as a tack and I love its contrast in B&W. Don't know how it renders in color as I have never shot color with it.

The one thing that I've always had some issues with is loading film but I think that's just me. And that issue is not constant, it happens once in a while when I am not patient. Imagine that!

I also think the meter is my fave as far as metered M's go. It's just spot on, pun soooooo intended.

If you can't find a 40 Summicron C for your eventual CL Earl, I can recommend the CV 40f1.4. Faster, just not quite as compact.

I love my CL, too. It's only a Leitz Minolta CL, but I consider it an equal partner to the Leica. Bought it new in 1978, I think. It's such an easy camera to use - fits in a coat pocket, quiet, nice VF - what's not to like? The only other camera that has given me so much pleasure is my Fujifilm X100T. Now that's a great camera!

Hi,

Well, if you just want one camera and can't decide; put them all up for sale and when you've sold all but one, keep it...
