I'm wondering about the angle of view of the Leica CL viewfinder. I know the widest framelines are for 40mm, but what would you guess the edges of the viewfinder equate to?

I have a CL. SOme people say they can use the widest edges of the VF for a 28mm angle or view, but for me it's a bit of a stretch as I need to move my eye around to see each edge in turn, so it's not exactly natural. So for me, the 35mm view (outside of the 40mm lines) is about it. When i use a 28mm lens (rarely), I just guess the extra since i dislike external finders on the hotshoe.

'Hope this helps. BTW, the 28mm lines on the Minolta CLE ARE EXCELLENT.

The VF in my CL has about the same angle of view as my 19mm on my SLR. Now, I'm talking about the extreme edges of the CL's VF; it's not really useful for framing since you have to move your head around to see each of the four edges one at a time. 28mm might be a fair guess at what you can see just by looking through the VF, but I'd want a accessory brightline finder for anything wider than 35mm.

Thanks folks. I'm just thinking about occasional use with a 28mm - something like a CL with a 50 and 28 for a lightweight occasional travel kit.

(The only reason I'm thinking of a CL - a CLE would be nicer - is that I just popped into eBay last night and there was one just finishing that I got for what I think is a cheap price - I'll tell you the price if it's OK when it arrives :) )
