I notice that even though the D-Lux 6 is a later model than the 5 (and there also seems to be a D-Lux 109), there are very few D-Lux 5s being offered on eBay--or here on RFF. And there is a high asking price for the 5 when it is offered. Does anyone have any idea why? Maybe because the earlier camera is RAW compatible with more post-processing programs, e.g. Aperture, than the 6? Or because the 5 has a larger sensor? Or what? People do seem to hang onto their D-Lux 5!

what?
I owned the Pan LX3 (which I believe is sim to the Leica D4 ?).
The 3rd or 4th stupidest thing that I ever did was to sell that camera.

Austintatious
Well-known
From what I read on the interwebbs, the D-Lux 5 is almost identical to the Panasonic
Lumix LX-5. That is the one I bought and I will not sell it either. Great little camera!

As the reason why they are not plentiful on ebay. Sure. But with the tendency of people, in the digital age, to sell last month's camera as soon as the next one comes out, there are plenty of used digicams out there. There are D-Lux 3s, D-Lux 4s, and D-Lux 6s. But not many D-Lux 5s. I happened to notice this, and thought it interesting.

Hi,
Knowing there are variations with Leica or Panasonic labels I figure there are two or three types of buyers.
And I figure the Leica ones hold on to their cameras. Probably the sub-group who know about both labels and then chose the Panasonic would also hod on to them and the ones who don't know would sell on the camera when next week's appears. Also the Leica version being dearer and, some might say, more elegant/pretty/posh means people would hold on to the longer.
Just shows how many sub-sets you can make from a choice of A or B...
