I'm having trouble, with quite a few oldies. This one looks like a Leica I, though I'm not sure. The serial number is 248564, which on cameraquest.com puts it as a Leica I. the weird thing, is the accessory mount is square, rather than round like on the old ones. Anyone disagree?

It looks like a later Leica I that has the accessory mount from the II-III. They might have just went with the same mount for all. Have you seen later ones with a round mount? I have one from 1930 and with a round mount and nickel plated parts.

It is late 1937 early 1938 production run Leica I/Standard, so the square footed shoe is normal.....note also the chrome knobs instead of nickel as found in the early I`s, unique, not anything rare -
(1940 to 47 Leica I`s are rare) but, still a neat little camera :)

Ash, It is a Leica Standard "Model E" 1937/8 the only Leica made without the word "Leica" engraved on the cover. Only the lens cap had the name engraved on it. Enjoy.

By the way, that hood is for a Summar lens. Since the front of the Elmar rotates as you focus, it really requires you to use a round hood.

By the way, the hood is worth easily $50.
