I have a student who recently purchased a Leica III. Can anyone suggest where he can go online to read, or downlaod a manual? Thanks in advance for your help.
I have a Leica III as well as a Leica IIIf. I have not found a manual for the III, but the manual for the IIIf is online. If one ignores the flash synch features of the IIIf, the remainder of the manual will work fairly well for the earlier Leica III models.
Some of us enjoy the completism of having a manual - it avoids silly "Gotcha!"s (I'd certainly not want to risk anything like a Leica without at least some inquiring into how to use it!), and they're nice things to have around and look at. I have two different manuals for Kodak No2 Autographic Brownies, plus a 1914 Ensign catalogue and a 1920s Kodak one as well, amongst other photographic ephemera. Yes, I can probably find it all out in five minutes with the camera, but they're fun and nice bits of social history.
Do you set the shutter speed then advance or is it the other way around? How exactly do you use the slow speed dial? Its all pretty obvious once you're familiar with the camera. If you've never used one before, not so much. 🙂
