Leica LTM Leica IIIf mismatched dials

There is a small screw on the knurled portion of the speed dial. Loosen that and I think it un-screws.

Thanks, that takes off the cap, not the speed dial itself. On earlier cameras I think the dial just comes off at the point but it isn't on the IIIF.

I thought the same. Maybe just gummed up and stuck? I’d try a little lighter fluid and pry carefully.

I seen many of the IIIf cameras out of sync adjustment for electronic flash, most will sync at the shutter curtain running time of 1/30 for the BD and dial set at 0 and for the RD models it is half the shutter running time of 1/25 and dial set at 0 ```these are not factory specs that is for sure

Many are so out of wack that they never sync at any shutter speed or dial setting with electronic flash

I finally got around to setting up the Braun with the IIIf last Saturday, and it didn't go well. I tested it with the camera before sending it off for the shutter repair, and everything worked as it should. Now it doesn't. So I mounted another flash unit, and it didn't work. So I tested both flash unit PC cords with good results as both units worked on Manual and Auto.


Then I hooked a meter to PC socket on the IIIf, and got no reaction. I tried that with a Canon P and only got readings on a spurious basis, so apparently a digital meter is not a good choice, so I'll have to find one of my needle meters.


I suspect that the repairman disconnected the sync while fixing the shutter curtain, and didn't bother to check everything when he got done.

Looks like anytime you have to take the shell off the camera is a good time to recover it.

It is easy to bend the copper contact strip that runs from under the cold shoe to near to the high shutter speed rotary contacts that are activated by the flash number dial when placing the top cover back on.

No problem... as any good repair tech worth his or her salt would guarantee their work and will fix it right for you.

Just take or send the camera back, it is a hassle but things will work out fine in the end.

If it is a fairly new replacement vulcanite covering it still will be good.

I had a non- sharkskin cover 1948 IIIc that the original brittle vulcanite split in three pieces while slipping the shell off for the start of a CLA.

Old cameras have many things happen to them, just like old people... nature of the beast.
