I have a Leica IIIf and two Nicca RF cameras and I am wondering since the Niccas shutter makes more noise and they are over 50 years of age were they ever as silent as the Leicas when new? I can barely hear the shutter on the Leica RF but the others have a louder sound. Is the mechanism so much better and engineered better on the Leicas for that reason?

Hopefully someone who purchased a new Nicca at the time could maybe answer this or should the Niccas have better lubrication to make them as silent?

I have a mint Nicca RF (Sold by Sears under their Tower brand name). The shutter was checked and lubricated a couple of years ago. The shutter makes quite a loud noise compared with Leica screwmount cameras. This seems quite normal. The Nicca is quite well built according to one of the major Leica service people in the US. It's a great camera to use, especially since my particular model has a lever wind.
