Leica in your shirt pocket

Does anyone realistically carry a Leica in their shirt pocket? I hear that some people carry Leica's in their shirt pockets. I understand coat pockets and in times of desperation, pants pockets, but not shirt pockets. I understand this would have be a Leica LTM + 50/3.5 Elmar to be practical, but doesn't even that feel bulky?

I don't have a Leica LTM + Elmar but a Rollei 35, which is comparable in weight and size, and that is too large for me. It feels odd.

I think he's meaning a Leica RF of some kind. I know an M body is way too big for that, but I think anything heavier than sunglasses are too much for my shirt pocket. I typically only use it to store CDs at work 🙂

Only minox 35 or Olympus xa maybe be light enough to feel ok in your shirt pocket, if u think the rollei is too heavy..minox 35 has a bad rep for shutter release failure from what I have read. Contax T is about same as the Rollei but is flatter when folded and around same size w/ flash removed. The Leica body alone is going to weigh a lot more and I think u are going to need some really large shirt pockets. To me it is at best a baggy pants pocket fit. Leica CL is the smallest body for M by the way but because of the swing arm meter design, I don't think collapsible lenses are recommended. Screw mount Leica bodies are smaller then normal M, but mainly in terms of height and gonna weigh more than your rollei.

I can fit my Leica+35mm in my jacket pocket, I don't think I've ever owned a camera that could fit into my shirt pocket, even the venerable Ricoh. Maybe I just wear small size shirts 😀

I always carry in my shirt pocket. Why wouldn't you? I wear good solid shirts, not T-shirts or silky Hawaiian jobs. It all started with my Olympus Infinity 2000 but now I carry my Leica LTM cameras that way. I think that is why I am partial to the older models, though all of them will fit. The easiest are the Standard or the Null Series. I will also carry my ZI in my pocket with one of the MS Optical Super Triplet Perars attached.

Of course, as Roger mentioned, if you aren't careful you can drop them out on their nose if you bend over. But you learn after awhile and I haven't dropped one in a long time. Besides, if a plastic 35mm point and shoot like the Oly Infinity 2000 can stand up to an occasional drop a Leica Barnack certainly should.

Hi,

No problem with the Leica mini and its Elmar, not the Mini 3 and its Summar. Just remember to fit it with a neck strap/bootlace converted...

Thanks for the input.

I was referring to mechanical Leica's, not the film/digital P&S's.

My Rollei 35 fits in my pocket, but it feels/looks odd and I don't think that a Leica LTM would fit any better. I should start carrying my Rollei 35 this way and see if I can adjust.

Royal Navy No. 8 shirts are ideal. Proper cotton ones, that is. I still hope to find a hidden cache somewhere.

Cheers,

R.

I don't know what you all are talking about, my M5 fits just fine in my pocket.

Hi,

They sometimes turn up at fetes when there's a fair etc and tents full of stuff to sell. But in France? Sorry, I can't help.

The best thing about ex-Govt stuff is that it is properly made and dirt cheap. I hunt for the tropical uniform trousers and shirts in the summer. The Dutch stuff is good too and the NATO jackets.

Ian, that shirt looks familiar. I just can't seem to place it. 😉

It is, of course, and Offical Photographer's Shirt! The only shirt to wear out shooting.

I actually tend towards blazers and ties (I suppose that suits the Leica aesthetic), but seriously, when I'm out shooting for the day, I tend towards plaid flannel. Maybe it's my Northwesterner showing.

I've carried a Zorki 1D with collapsible I-22 in my shirt pocket just fine (same as having a Leica IIc). But other cameras I've had mixed results with, with the biggest problem being sweat condensation on the camera body. Ruined a nice Canon Sure Shot Classic 120 that way.
