Leica is lending me a 24mm-90mm for NYC Fashion Week

It does seem like having the fully integrated lens and body as a system has remarkable advantages. Now more than ever I love my SL. For me it does not get better than this. I think you are right: The matrix metering seems to be doubly deadly accurate. Anyways this lens is kinda crazy good. A very impressive lens that displays multiple advantages. I think using a lens made especially for the SL allows one to realize the true full potential of the SL.

Absolutely. While the SL is a lovely machine to let me use my R lenses as if it were made for them, there is definitely a huge advantage to having the modern lenses designed specifically for its sensor and that support all of its features 100%.

As I continue down the path of Leica equipment nirvana, I come to see that ultimately the SL works out to be the technical workhorse for my photography. I'll want the SL24-90, SL90-280, and a selection of my favorite R lenses for more specialized uses (like the Macro-Elmarit-R 60mm and 100mm with the Focusing Bellows R, the Summilux-R 50 and Summicron-R 90, and the Super-Elmar-R 15mm). The M-D 262 is without a doubt my favorite M body to date, regardless of film or digital, and works a treat with the WATE, 35, and 75 just as I have it. Perhaps add a Summicron or Noctilux 50, and a second M-D body, to complete the kit.

It's all a bit of "realizable fantasy", you understand, that presume on enough budget and 'caprice of the moment.' :angel: In any rational moment, I'll just keep on with the equipment I have now and not worry about making things so 'formally right.'

At this level it is Fashion Month that begins in NYC, then London, Paris, Milan then Japan. I'm on a fashion news blackout and am forced to be quiet. There are all kinds of things pending and ongoing and there are confidentiality agreements. I hope you understand.

While it may not include me there are things called "options" where it is kinda like "save the date" for a possible flight to another country.

NYC Fashion week was crazy, but something big happened that was really huge at the last minute, and Lyn had to jump on a plane for a big shoot. From what I was told the photographer shot with a Leica bigger than any of my "M" bodies and SL so I believe it was shot with a Leica "S" as well as a medium format Fuji, a big Contax, and even a super 8mm movie camera.

So all this happened during NYC Fashion Week prime time at the last minute. Lyn reported how all the last minute arrangements were all top shelf and first class with limos waiting for her. I was ready for runway shows, and there was a possibility that Lyn would either be dressed by designers for their shows or even be a runway model in the "Skyline" (big tent) but this all got prempted by a huge gig. Realize that Lyn had only been signed with "Elite" for about 2 weeks, and this huge gig comes in.

Saturday I returned the borrowed lens, and I gifted a print to John the Leica Specialist, and gifted another print to Shirley the Director of Marketing as gestures of gratitude. Anyways I will always remember fondly the support I received, and the 24mm-90mm really is an impressive piece of glass. The image stabilization makes up for the slow speed of the lens, and it is truely remarkable for night shooting in NYC.

So now we wait to see if this "Option" becomes another gig that requires another plane trip, but this time to another country. I humbly intend to make the most of Lyn's absence to develope the 60-70 rolls of exposed film in my fridge. Anyways what is happening to my gal is beyond a dream come true: it is surreal. She made the big time.

Humbly we both realize that one of the reasons for her success is that initially when I shot for her blog we were limited to B&W only because the only digital camera I owned was my Monochrom. The B&W images was not what everybody else was doing, so Lyn's blog really stood out and gained traction rapidly, so the moral of the story here is if you want to stand out, don't do what everyone else is doing.

Then as time went on we kinda learned that being humble paid dividends. We made many friends and were welcomed into a community of creatives that fondly remember any support or help over the past two and a half years. Anyways I will always fondly remember that Leica stepped up and helped me during a time when I thought I would need it, but an unexpected surprise came into play, so I didn't get to use the borrowed lens as intended for in the tent.

As for now I really can't talk about fashion because of the blackout that has to be enforced.

Indeed it is crazy, you named it project (I don't remember now). A moment you are in, the next one not and viceversa. Good, if that was that dropped gig or another one! No more NDA questions.

Interesting to hear about the variety of gear used. Film has become appreciated for the "texture" and its qualities, recalling what directors and Kodak say about Super 8.

IS is very useful, makes you not care that much about staying in f4 on quite dark settings. Yes, it does not help freezing movement, but whatever. If you didn't get tent use for the 24-90, well, hope the alternative was fun!

If you end up in Barcelona, Spain you know! (RFFers too) There is the 080 show here, but it is not first tier from what I percieve; so I'm not sure if you may end up around here.

Treat others as you wish them treat you, that is a core value that nowadays is getting diluted. I feel shallowness around, uncommitment.
The extent of reaching out is something that I don't see that much in my surroundings, perhaps it is generational? Ironic in such an age of communication.

It is an interesting ride that is full of surprises, but is unlikely to be sustainable. It would be foolish to get ahead of oneself, and although life is certainly different and has changed, I'm kinda happy knowing I am the same person who began this journey.

Anyways I'm a lucky guy.
