Leica Kravitz Special Edition with Brassing?

What makes you think they have?

Leica have always produced limited editions but this one goes further than most and they'll sell every one of them.
Well, quite. Those who relentlessly attack every new Leica special edition are the ones who are out of touch. But they'll never understand why.

Cheers,

R.

Hmmm ... And that's an indicator of what? Making silly models named after pseudo-stars and selling them all?

Roger,

Anyone who criticizes Leica's focus on special editions, including one named after a pseudo-star, is "out of touch"? Now that's funny--and seems rather "out of touch" when considering Leica's ongoing struggles. But I guess I'll "never understand why" ... :bang:

The only people who will agree with you are the ones who already think the way you do. You're not going to change anyone's mind. Nor am I, but at least I'm not the one whining about a camera I don't particularly want (and in my case, can't afford anyway).

Cheers,

I can understand creating special editions to milk collectors. But why a past pop idol like Lenny Kravitz? Leica can't really believe to get into the market of Lenny Kravitz fans (now, twenty years later, mostly middle class women above the mid forties) with that move. It reminds me of Volkswagen (long after the prime of these bands) doing Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd editions of the entry level Golf and even the Polo, their most pedestrian lower class car. An association which can hardly be what Leica wanted to achieve.

Fair point. I have to admit I'd never heard of the bugger. This raises the interesting question of why they put the name of a nobody on what is actually quite an attractive camera, albeit with excessive and pointless brassing around where the wind-on lever would be.

I'd suggest a Roger Hicks edition of the MP, same black paint, same brassing, but without my signature on it.

Cheers,

R.

... Lincoln could do a Keith Moon special town car

Lenny Kravitz is a celeb and a cool one at that at least for my generation (30-35 year olds), he is also a Leica photographer who happens to have been published in a few fashion mags and a book of his work will come out this year. When this book will come you can bet that it will gather some interest from the media. Lenny Kravitz+Leica photo. Leica can use this as advertisement. So for all naysayers I think Leica did it right. As for Blackstone who cares about them they are not the majority owner.

Ooo well as a middle aged woman and a fan of Lenny (back in the day when he had his dreadlocks….wow), I'd pay to watch him rub the Leicas down to the brass. Have to have a lie down down after thinking about that.

I don't care you are, that there is funny. 😀

Well, yes, quite. Celebrities are often described as "those who are famous for being famous" and I can't help feeling that a celeb might be someone who is famous for being fam.

You're probably right about the book and attendant publicity, though. And if the brassing isn't identical on all of them, them surely a truly obsessive collector would want all 125 of them.

Cheers,

R.

Luxus, Brunei, Bhumibol, Kravitz... there have always been special series since the thirties and i don't see why Leica should change anything to that.

Then you are the one out of reality if you have never heard of him and calling him a nobody, lol. Maybe because you are not in America.

I don't listen to his music but even I can think of a few of his songs.

Does anyone know if the wear artificially executed on the special-edition Leica M-P ‘Correspondent’ is a replica of the wear on a camera Kravitz actually uses and owns?

Yes - it has been inspired by the Leica he inherited from his father - and presumably still uses.

Btw. The photographs in his new photobook are pretty good...
