leica leather m8 half case

You're speaking of the half-only case, not the entire ERC, right?. I looked at it, and what I didn't care for was that there's no cover for the back (LCD). It basically just covers the two sides. I'm the first to gag on the price of the Luigi cases, but since I never use the LCD except to change settings, I prefer not to look at it, so the Luigi was my choice. I got one used for a good price, otherwise I wouldn't have bought one though. Now he's got an economy version for $150, vs $270 for the regular one. I'd surely go with the economy version if I had to buy one new.

I have a Leica 1/2 case for my M8 and a Mr. Zhou 1/2 case for my M4P. The Leica is made better and works very well. I understand that the early Leica cases left some abrasion marks on the body, but mine has been fine. The Mr. Zhou 1/2 case , while not quite as nice as the Leica, is much less expensive and also does a fine job of protecting the body. Mine, however, is an overly tight fit and taking it on and off is a bit of a struggle. From the other comments about the Zhou case, I suspect that the extra tight fit on mine is an exception.

In practical terms, the Leica protector is minimal but sturdy and gives you better grip than no protector at all. I find Luigi's a snugger fit and covering more thus even better to grip. In terms of design Luigi's is much nicer to look at and has much nicer leather too.

I prefer the Luxecase half cases, they fit much better than any other case (including Luigi's) and the quality of the leather and stitches is excellent. Finally, the price is pretty good too!

Thanks for the comments. I like to check histograms on the back once in a while, so would want a cutout. I never liked the extra thickness of leather on film M's, and the frequent changing of film would sometimes make removal of the case tedious. With the M8, I can often go all day without needing bottom access. I might try the Zhou then move on if necessary.
